| An exciting world of glamour awaits the student who completes the Cosmetology program at Heartland Career Center. Students spend time in a classroom setting learning theory of hair and beauty care, solon management, professional ethics, and cosmetology laws. The remaining class time is spent in the clinic working on mannequins, classmates or customers. Students will complete a variety of hair care and beauty services including hair styling and cutting, hair coloring, permanet waves manicures, pedicures, and skin care. A student must be willing to complete two years in the program, arriving at 7:15 AM their junior year untill 11:20 AM and from 12:00 PM until 5:30 PM their senior year. Some students must provide their own transportation if it is not already provided by their home school. After completing 1500 hours of instruction and completing the assigned tasks, the student will be ready to take their state examination for a cosmetology license. They may also intern in a established shop if their coursework and require hours are completed. Through Skills USA students can participate in hair or nail care contests and leadership competitions. Successful students may earn valuable college scholarships and opportunity to travel to conventions (additional cost may be incurred for these situations). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
