| FIRST SEMESTER I. First Three-Week Grading Period A. PC Architecture, Hareware Terminology, Function Storage of Components and Safety of Components 1. Basic terms, concepts, and functions of system modules, including how each module should work during normal operations and during the boot process. 2. Perform basic procedures for adding and removing field replaceable modules for both desktop and portable systems. 3. Identify common peripheral ports, associated cabling, and their connectors. 4. Be aware ofESD, what it can do, how it may by apparent, ot hidden, and how to use common ESd protection devices, 5. Determine the proper method of storage of components for future use. 6.Be familiar with the reason for the content of the MSDS (Material safety and data sheet.) 7.Identify potential hazards and use proper safety procedtion regarding high-voltage equipment, lasers, power supply , CRT and other potential Hazards. 8.Be familiar with issues, procedures and devices for protection within the computing environment, including people, hardware and the surrounding workspace, use of the UPS as well as determining the symptoms of power issues. II. Second Three-Week Grading Period A. Components of the Personal Computer, Repair and upgrade techniques and guidelines 1. Distinguish between the popular CPU chips in term of their basic characteristics, including characteristics, size, voltage, speeds, sockets, and brand name. 2. Identify the categories of RAM (ramdom acces memory) terminology, theri locations, and physical characteristics, including type,capacity, architecture, standards, and other characteristics(EDO, DRAM, SRAM, SIMM, DIMM, RIMM,etc.) 3. Install and remove the popular types of motherboards, idnetify their components, and their architecture (bus structures,chipsets, RAM requiremetns, and expansion slots.) 4. Identify available IRQ's, DMA's and I/O addresses and procedures for devise installstion and cinfiuratuon. 5. Identify basic hardware methods of upgrading system performance, components, and when tp use them. 6. Sue proper procedures for installing and configuring IDE/EIDE devises. 7. Identify the purpose pf CMOS, what it contains, how to modify its basic parameters. III. Thrid Three-Week Grading Period A.Opening system concept, Upgrades, Boot sequence and Methods and common DOS commands 1. Identify the operating system functions, structure, and major system files to nacigate the operating system and how to get to needed technical information. 2. Pracrice using baisc techinques for creating, viewing, and managing files, directories, and disks. This inclues procedures for changing file attributed, and the ramifications of those changing - security issues, 3. Use proper procedures for installing Window 9x and Windows 2000 for bringing the software to a basic operating level. 4. Identify steps to perform and operating system upgrade, such as Window 95 to Window 98, Window 98 to Window XP or 2000. 5. Identify and define major systems files, including IO.SYS,MSDOS.SYS, command.com, win,ini,boot.ini,NTLDR. 6. Identify the basic system boot sequences and boot methods, including the steps to create and emergency boot disk with utilities installed for Windows series operating system. 7. Perform DOS command prmpt procedured, use of WIndows 2000 and Windows 9x, devise manger, control panelm and run box IV. Fourth Three-Week Grading Period A. Troubles, Preventive Maintenance, Computer Build Project and prepare for district competition 1. Identify the purpose of various types of preventtive maintenance products and procedures and when to use them, including, liquid cleaning compounds, and other types of materials. 2. Advertising & Technical Design 3. Color V. Fifth Three-Week Grading Period A. Basic Understanding of printer hardware, Device Drivers and Troubleshooting 1. Packaging Design Project 2. Working in small groups 3. Presenting a group project VI. Sixth Three-Week Grading Period A. Networking Concepts and Internet Access, A+ Certification Exam Preparation - Core Hardware and Operating System Technologies 1. Adobe PhotoShop CIB 2. Adobe Iullustrator CIB 3. Adobe InDesign CIB 4.
