FIELD TRIP IN JANUARY

Posted: 12/15/97 5:00 PMFrom PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons
*Save some Xmas cash, for the club will journey to Baltimore's Walter's Art Gallery the third or fourth Friday or Saturday in January, and tour the Galleries and eateries of the surrounding Mount Vernon area. It has the nearby cathedral and the main Enoch Pratt Library.

*Perhaps after the thaw we will head WEST to Pittsburgh's museums.

*More info at the next---January's--club meeting.

*Happy---and safe---holidays! Don't drink and create!

COMMENT: We did go to the Walters in February. There was no trip in January.
Topics for Meetings

We need to discuss: Our trips-- One to Annapolis or Pittsburgh, Pa., or where have you?

Our raffle?

Get some supplies for the ART Dept.

Our plans for the Spring Student Art Show-- Yes, we have to start early, because we all have exams when the show is happenin', so let's plan it NOW! This is our duty, folks, the trips are the glory.

For more of an "audience", do we need to change venues? ----Valley Mall? ------CP Conference Room?

A garden pot sale? Brian's been making a few little pots in Ceramics.....

The Walters Trip in Review

Posted: 2/16/98 2:02 PMFrom PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons
Four students and a guest went to Lexington Market and the Walters Art Gallery on 13 February.

It was Friday the 13th all right: we got our wires crossed on when and where to meet, costing us about 1-1/4 hours.

The computer directions to Baltimore left out one turn, costing us ten minutes.

And our transportation lost all oil on the other side of South Mountain, causing us to have to wait for a tow for 45 minutes on the brink of I-70 West at night!

But, we got back safely and this writer's only real regret is that the "wasted" time wasn't spent shopping at the Market or, better still, in the Gallery-- and our driver and Darlene Stred's guest, Cristoforo Padula, was so upbeat and interesting, even that wasn't wasted time.

Three post cards from the special exhibit and two other cards showing Walters Art Gallery pieces, as well as a Gallery brochure are displayed on and around the Art Department lobby bulletin board.

Trip to the MONET Exhibit: 4/10
Posted: 4/9/98 12:18 PMFrom PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons
The trip to the Walters Art Gallery for the Monet exhibit was on 10 April, Good Friday. HJC was closed.

After getting a copy of her clean driving record and submitting it to the college comptroller, a club member, Darlene Stred, was OK'ed to be the driver--as we used an HJC minivan.

Cost, excluding lunch, was $1.70 for driving, $8 to see Monet show.

Other UPCOMING TRIPS, one DEFINITE!
Posted: 4/9/98 12:24 PMFrom PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons

*A one-day trip to Pittsburgh, Pa.(with its Warhol Museum and Carnegie Museum and, perhaps, a side trip to Falling waters, Frank Lloyd Wright's house over a brook) on SUNDAY, 26 April--EARLY to LATE!

*A one-day to the BAY BRIDGE WALK and what's left of the architecture of Annapolis, Md.(and its small art galleries: Quiet Waters Farm, Anne Arundel Com. Col., Naval Academy, St. John's) on SUNDAY, 3 MAY. EARLY to LATE!

*A trip to the Walters on GOOD FRIDAY, 10 April. There is a MONET EXHIBITION there now.

Summary
Posted: 4/9/98 12:34 PMFrom PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons
The presidents have decided to move the meetings back to the THURSDAY time to see if we can gain members. So it's THURSDAYS at 11:30 am from now on.

The club donated two wall clocks for use in the Art Department in honor of Darlene Stred, who let us use her minivan in February for the Walters trip. The van expired on the return.

It's gone now.

Those interested in Evening Art Club meetings, or finding out what's going on in the club, but are unable to attend meetings, you will have to read and post here or read and post on the real bulletin board in CP 126 Art Dept. Lobby (on the left). Though Brian Simmons had been staying till 6 pm. on Wednesdays, no-one seemed interested. If there is interest (JUST ASK in a note or in person), he will stay to relate club news and talk.

Our 26 February meeting saw a new member, Chris Foxwell, join in. So far, most interest on the trips is to Pittsburgh. We discussed current goings on and the student expo. We hope to have a garden sale and a raffle by term's end. The 70's party probably won't happen, unless we involve another club.

Cindy Digulimio joined in on 2 April. The Walters trip was a go. A Bay Bridge trip was added.

Chris, Cindy, Brian and Ben Culbertson attended the 9 April meeting. The pottery sale's in doubt. A raffle will be held at the Student Expo [Show]. Flyers for the trips have been posted about.

An additional clock has been installed.

Brian Simmons donated some Cezanne posters and two art post cards.

Spring Art Show in Review Message 5 From: (PA-MEMBER) To: ALL 1 of 1 Posted: 5/13/98 5:39 PM From PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons
Basically, this show was our best ever. This is not my personal assessment, but the general consensus of the exhibit goers who wrote comments. My "Not too shabby, folks" was the lowest comment made, and I, Brian meant that as an understatement.

Pluses: There was more work exhibited than in the fall. We had a raffle (winner: Cheryl Twine of Mercersburg, Penna.) and a guest book. We had LIVE music for the reception. We had Krumpe donuts!

Minuses: Not many people came to view this. The fall receptions were better attended. The flash board at the Dual Highway Home Federal did NOT advertize us! "News" 25 walked right past our exhibit to the parental lecture on Thursday! Brian had to grab witnesses for the Monsoon Friday Raffle. People have not yet picked up all their stuff from the exhibit. The price list for works that were for sale was incomplete.

The pottery sale needs to be out at the mall.

Mr. Culbertson is supportive of having the next show at the County Museum of Fine Arts. I think that's doable.

New Department Stuff!

After the LRC Building is constructed, the CP Building is going to be gutted!

But, in the aftermath, we probably will get the PERMANENT GALLERY we want.

And, the Division Chair is budgeting a new gas kiln. She has told Mr. Culbertson NOT to refit the old one, submit the price of a whole NEW one! The old bricks will be used to make a pit kiln. Or, a small Habitat for Humanity House for Brian.....

Ceramics Intensive Trip to D.C. and Annapolis
Posted: 7/6/98 12:18 PMFrom PlanetAll Member: Brian Simmons
The Ceramics Intensive Four and Art Club co-President Daettia Butler took a class trip on Thursday, 2 July 1998+ to view ceramic works at the Freer Gallery and the Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C. They then went to Annapolis, Maryland to Annapolis Pottery at State Circle and Cornhill Street, a production pottery enterprise. They viewed the work for sale and were given a tour of the facility by one ofthe owners. They were invited to submit work for consideration, as about 50% of their offerings are produced off site and are sold at a commission. They then toured Annapolis a bit, ang went to a lapidary store, Black Market Minerals, in Harbor Square Mall near the City Dock.

All four class members went, and Dae Butler, Art Club co-President, also attended.

Save for getting lost a bit in D.C. (we got on the closest thing D.C. has to a DIRT road, then got on the Anacostia Freeway) and playing limba with the school minivan in L'Enfant Plaza's underground parking garage, it was a very enjoyable--and informative trip.
