| You remember General Science, don't you? There's no need to salute. Actually, this is a list of ideas for EXTRA CREDIT for science in general--for any science topic! F.Y.I.: I am willing to negotiate the number of points granted. Likewise, full points may not be granted if your EXTRA CREDIT product is not sufficient or poorly executed. EXTRA CREDIT will be judged on the following factors: > relevance to science > appropriateness for middle school > complexity of activity and product > thoroughness of report, display, or product > correct use of all writing conventions > N-C-A-A: neat, complete, accurate, & available on time Also, please see me if you have any other ideas. | * Read a book (appropriate for 6th grade) about a science topic that interests you. Show me the book before you read, to get my O.K. Fill out one of the book report forms. [2-4 points, depending on the book chosen] * Watch an hour-long educational video about a science topic that interests you: for example, space, oceans, animals, plants, mountains, ecology, earthquakes, volcanoes, inventors, famous scientists, etc. Fill out a viewing form. [2 points] * Watch an hour-long TV program about a science topic that interests you. Try NOVA on PBS stations, the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, etc. Check out the TV Guide for ideas. Fill out a viewing form. [2 points] * Spend an hour gathering information on a science topic from selected websites. (That's one whole hour/sixty (60) minutes total--no fooling around, no IM-ing, no lengthy phone calls.) Fill out a website review form on each site you visited. Each report must include the URL and details explaining how the site related to the science topic you selected. [2-3 points] * Keep a journal for at least two weeks on one of your pets or visitors to your bird feeder or some other nature phenomenon. Include data about feedings, observations of behaviors, details of changes, and sketches. [2-3 points] * Make a special science-related collection, complete with labels, interesting facts, and details. You can even make a display in our classroom. Try rocks/minerals, fossils, sands, soils, shells, insects, flowers, leaves, feathers, photos, etc. [2-4 points] |
