K-8 SCIENCE OVERVIEW
Science is a big part of the instructional program in Red Clay schools, starting with kindergarten.  By 6th grade, our students have already used science kits that have introduced them to basic concepts in chemistry, biology, physics, and geology.  In 6th grade we instruct two physical science kits, one earth history/geology kit, and a kit about the human body.

We also take the time to focus our students' attention on Science Standard #1:
The Nature of Science.  This is probably the first time that students discuss what makes science special and different.  We give special attention to instruction regarding CLASSIFICATION, one of the science process skills used by scientists.  Our K-8 science program asks students to learn to think, talk, and behave like scientists.
Here are the science topics studied in each grade of elementary and middle schools in Red Clay.
I have used color coding to denote science strands that spiral up through the grade levels.
