Tray Cloth Lace
Edging
Here is my bobbin
lace work in progress. This is a twenty year project - I'm sure
of it! I started it way back before I was married, when living in
Canberra, ACT, Australia. I belonged to the Australian Lace Guild, NSW
Branch, and enjoyed my weekly visits to learn bobbin lace. It
was so relaxing to sit in a room full of lace makers, listening to the
clicking of the bobbins.
There were many
things that attracted me to bobbin lace making. Firstly, it was a
handcraft, and I'm always interested in trying a new handcraft!
Perhaps that explains why I have so many UFOs laying around?
Secondly, who could resist those bobbins and beads?! If you would
like to see my collection of bobbins, click here.
This project was
started back then, in Australia, and unfortunately I haven't worked on
it in probably 10 years. It is one of those projects I long to
get back to, and will eventually. Of course, by the time I do,
I'll have to learn lace making all over again! :-)
In the mean time,
every once in a while, I buy or order a few lace bobbins, or beads for
bobbins I already have. Then I spangle them, and go through all
my bobbins again. I love looking at them, going through them,
remembering where I bought them or the 'main' beads on the
spangles. Several of my bobbins have a special meaning to me
based on the beads, the bobbin or a combination, so it's always a joy
to look through them.
