Crochet - Plastic
Tote
Pattern from:
making it up as I go along
Using: various plastic shopping bags
I decided to make
this because I wanted a true 'throw around' tote for the beach.
Don't get me wrong, I love my large LLBean canvas tote, but I wanted
one for just the toys - something all the sand could sift out of on the
way back to the car. Then again, maybe it will continue to sift
out of it all the way back into the house.....
Anyway, years and
years ago - like in the late '60's early '70's (no offense to anyone
older than me) - we had a neighbor that lived across the road that
always crocheted Christmas ornaments for us every year. At the
time the only thing that mattered to me was reading and my horse.
So handmade things had no real value. Actually, 'no real value'
isn't the right term, they just didn't hold a special place in my
heart. Anyway, she crocheted these little tote bags for her
daughter and I (we are the same age) one year, out of Wonder Bread
bread bags. I still have it somewhere, because, after all, I am a
pack-rat. However, I also still have all the ornaments she
crocheted me as well, and they go on our tree every year. Since I
became older and wiser, those ornaments DO hold a special place in my
heart. They moved away between my 6th & 7th grade in school,
then moved back to the area many years later, after I was long gone
from home. Her daughter and I stay in touch, and I see her and
her family whenever I am back home visiting my parents. Dot is
gone now, but I have fond memories of her, and all the wonderful things
she crocheted over the years.
Not sure how big
this will end up being, I'm still working on the bottom. Cutting
up those plastic bags is a pain, but the colors are fun!
