| HISTORIC BAPTIST DOCTRINE ___________ Some Arguments Against The Doctrines Of Grace |
| Some of the repeated arguments, that I get, against the doctrines of grace or the five points of Calvinism are:
1. If God saves whom He will, then there is no reason to preach the Gospel. 2. The doctrines of grace give someone freedom to sin all they want, because they are saved and nothing will change that. 3. No need to pray for the lost, because if their not on the list, they will not be saved. 4. The Calvinism God is a mean God. Let's take a look at them one at a time. 1. If God saves whom He will, then there is no reason to preach the Gospel. - Calvinist believe in preaching the Gospel and some of the best preachers of the past were Calvinist. The Holy Scriptures tell us to preach the Gospel to every creature and Calvinist do practice this. 2. The doctrines of grace give someone freedom to sin all they want, because they are saved and nothing will change that. - I don't care who you are, a true believer does not want to sin and it does not matter where you stand is on Calvinism, if you want to sin, you will find a way to do it. 3. No need to pray for the lost, because if their not on the list, they will not be saved. - First, we are to pray, because we are instructed to do so. Second, who is to say that God did not put them on "the list" and is moving you to pray. Believe me, your prayer request was known to God before the foundation of the world. Thirdly, the reverse can be logically argued. If God is trying to save every single person on the face of the world, then God has, is and will do every single thing that He can do to save that person, so why do you keep bugging Him about it. Give Him a break, He is doing the best He can do. You most certainly don't want God to mess with the free-will of that person and make him willing, do you? 4. The Calvinist God is a mean God. - Now, this has to be the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. If God was fair, then we all would be condemned to everlasting torment. The fact is the only ones that God does not treat fairly, is the ones that He has chosen and saves, because we do not deserve it and if He deems to treat everyone else fair and with His righteous judgement and condemns them to eternal torment for their sins, then what unjust act has He done? If you believe in the free-will of man (that he is able to choose Christ as a spiritually dead sinner) then the Arminian God is just as mean. Here's why. Most Christians will admit that God creates with purpose, that He has all knowledge and that He does not change. If this be so, then when God created those that He knew would not believe, because His knowledge is perfect, He still created them any way knowing full well that they will not believe and this would include all people that have ever lived that never, never heard the gospel to even have the chance to believe. They also were created by God and will be condemned to the lake of fire for all eternity and God still created them. Conclusion - If the Calvinistic God is mean, then so is the Arminian god and the Arminian god is also weak, because he has no control over his creation. Posted:Jul 2nd 2006, 09:04 AM |
