GRADE PLACEMENT

Students coming from another school must show grades for the last gradingperiod, as well as show scores on a national standardized test of achievement. If this information is not available or if there are questions about a students grade level, a placement test will be given. Each application is acted upon by the School Board following receipt of a transcript. It is understood that all new students will be automatically placed on a 60 days probation, after which time their permanent standing will be decided. The school reserves the right, after testing a child and counseling with the parents, to change the grade placement of the child.

GRADING SYSTEM
The school year is divided into four sections of approximately nine weeks each. At the end of nine weeks, a grade card indicating the performance of the student is sent to the parents or guardians. Twice yearly parent/teacher conferences will be held; at which time the system of grading will be explained.

GRADING WITH RESPECT TO ATTENDANCE

Excuses will not be accepted unless the reason for the tardiness or absence is stated. The only valid excuse, according to State Law, is sickness of student or death in the immediate family. There may be times when it is advisable for the student to be absent for reasons other than those stated above. In such cases the student should arrange with the teacher involved regarding the work to be missed. Such arrangements are to be made BEFORE the absence is incurred. Dental and medical treatments should be attended to outside school hours. If this is not possible, arrangements should be made as stated above to avoid penalty. Upon returning to the classroom, a note from the parent must accompany the student. A pupil who is absent as much as 20% of the total school days for a given period, for whatever cause, may forfeit his grades unless it is evident to the teacher that his work has been satisfactorily made up.

Because it is the goal of Humboldt Bay Adventist Christian School to provide an atmosphere that will lead children to Christ, it is the policy only to accept those students who are desirous of a Christian education, and willing to be in full harmony with the standards of the school.

Enrollment, while selective, is not limited to children whose parents are members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. However, the school is not equipped or staffed to deal with students who have either learning disabilities or behavioral problems.

Students will be required to present transcripts or grades for the last quarter in school.

Students will be required to present current standardized test scores.

Students will be required to submit completed student questionnaire.

Students will submit at least two references.

Students will be required to appear for an entrance interview.

Students need to achieve grades at average to above average levels to be accepted.

Students who have had recurrent behavior problems in other schools will not be accepted.

Students who have been expelled from other schools will not be accepted.

Citizenship standards will be used to evaluate returning students for admission.

Because of limited school resources, students with special academic or behavioral needs will not be accepted.

Children entering first grade must be six (6) years old on or before August 31. They will be required to take a readiness test and demonstrate adequate maturity.

By registering at Humboldt Bay Christian School, the students, parents, and/or guardians agree to abide by the judgment of the school board, administration, and faculty as it applies to standards of dress and conduct. Registration implies an obligation to meet on time the financial responsibilities that accrue out of tuition, fees, or applicable charges approved by the School Board.
