Reservoir Baskatong, Quebec

November 6, 1957, 9:00 PM
UFOs have been reported on at least two occasions by hunters in the widerness area called Reservoir Baskatong, 100 miles north of Ottawa. Jaques Jacobson and three other witnesses saw "a bright sphere much larger than the moon" hovering above the hill two or three miles away from them over Lac Baskatong at 9:00 PM, November 6, 1957. The UFO was visible for about fifteen minutes. During its appearance their regular radio reception was blacked out, and so was their shortwave reception, except for a single wavelength which brought in a very strong signal in a rapidly modulated code. The incident is recounted by Aime Michel in
Flying Saucers and the Straight line Mystery (1958).

Richard Huot and Jacques Lavoie were vacationing at the camp at the southwest tip of the area when they too saw and succeeded in photographing a strange sight. At 6:30 PM, March 11, 1978, they noted what at first appeared to be a "falling star" approaching from the northwest. But the object in the sky continued its descent until it appeared to be a "brillaint object floating above the frozen lake."
They took four photographs of the UFO before it shifted its position and then lifted off. The lminous craft - symmetrical in shape - resembles a bell flattened on top."

Moose Factory / Strange Events

A series of strange events which reportedly happened in the sub-Arctic region around the southern shore of James Bay was described by Don Delaplante from Moose Factory to the Toronto Telegram on 21 October 1950.  The events which may or may not be related, took place over six months and included the following:

*  Three indians reported seeing a "water going object" which they identified as a submarine, gray on top, black on the bottom, in James Bay near the mouth of the Moose River.

*  A strange "red light" which hung almost stationary in the sky above Nemaska, a trading post in Quebec inland from Rupert's  House, was observed by the factor and his assistant. They likened it to "a traffic stop light", denying that it was the light from a star.

*  Indians west of Nemaska observed two "airplanes", one  large and one small, which appeared to stand still in the sky over Northern Quebec.

*  Three huge explosions, "like earthquakes", shook every building over a period of two or three minutes at Old Factory river.

*  When observed by Indians, "strange white men" were seen to run and hide in the forest around Fort George.

These reports attracted the attention of the RCMP whose officers investigated them and filed their reports with the headquarters in Ottawa.  "But nervousness prevails here", noted Delaplante, "for the vast unpatrolled coastline of James Bay and Hudson Bay makes a landing by any hostile invader an easy one".

Two Montrealers, Richard Huot, left and Jacques Lavoie, are shown holding photographs of a UFO they took while on a camping trip. One of the men managed to take several photographs of the oval shaped object as it skimmed across the dark surface of a lake before it disappeared. The sighting took place on March 11 1978 in a wooded area northwest of Montreal
