Lake Scugog, Ontario

1970's

I have witnessed UFOs on three separate occasions.  I also experienced something very alien.  My first sighting occurred when I was in my teens shortly after our family had moved to a small town on the edge of a lake North of the city (Lake Scugog).  One cool summer night my father, younger brother, and myself, had gone outside to rescue the cat from a fight with another cat.  After breaking up the fight we were commenting on how crystal clear the stars looked.  At this point we noticed a bright object moving
from South to North.  It should be noted that my father had been an aircraft controller in Scotland.  This did not looked like an aircraft. It had no flashing lights.  My father figured it was a satellite.  He had just finished saying this when the object suddenly traveled in zig zag pattern covering the great distance in an East/West direction at a great speed. Then it returned to its original direction at a very slow speed and vanished.

The second sighting took place at night during the winter.  My parents had gone out for the evening so I was baby-sitting my younger brother and sister who were in bed.  My friend Larry was there also. After we had just finished watching the hockey game, Larry started to fall asleep.  He wanted me to wake him up after the late news because there was some movie we wanted to watch.  After the news I woke up Larry and walked over to the television to change the channel.  As I passed by the living room window I noticed it seemed to be very bright out for the middle of the night.  Then I noticed the shadows of the trees around the house were moving across the snow.  When I looked up I could see a large object moving slowly over and away from the
house.  The object was glowing green with an orange rim.  I called for Larry to come to the window. As he got there the object moved away.  We waited for a second and then we could see the object again high in the sky about quarter mile away.  It suddenly came down out of the sky toward the ground at a very high-speed.  We thought it was going to crash into the ground, but as it got closer to the ground it slowed to a hover and then landed behind the trees.  We could see it glowing through the trees for some time.  Larry and I contemplated whether or not to go out and see what it was.  We knew the snow in the fields where the object had landed was hip deep, so we decided against going out to investigate at night. By this time the object was gone.  The next day Larry and myself waded through the snow to the spot where the object had landed.  It had been snowing all morning and we found nothing.

Well you asked for it. When I say Alien I dont mean extraterrestrial. I dont know what it was. It was just strange. I was out one night, on my bicycle, taking the dog for a run. We lived at the end of a road, south of the village. I had just come to the last corner before the short stretch home, when the dog, a large black lab, took off ahead of me growling and barking. He headed for the opening to a cottage driveway. I could then see what he was after. At first I thought it was a big white cat but then it appeared just like a white shape.  I got off my bike to stop the dog from attacking it. While I was shouting at the dog it moved towards a bunch of cedar trees and then stopped. I thought this was strange. If it was a cat why did it not go up the tree?  Now this dog was pretty fearless and stubborn. Just as he was about to pounce on it,  IT stood up.  IT was about three feet tall, with long willowy arms and a large head. My first thought IT was a big white monkey. Then came a sound that I have a hard time describing. It was like a very loud sub-sonic grunt or blast. I dont think the sound came from IT, I felt surrounded by the sound. I could feel it over my entire body. The dog stopped in its tracks, turned, and ran behind me with its tail between its legs. I was so scared; I could not get on my bike. I ran down the road with the dog, pushing the bicycle ahead of me. When I got home, my parents had guests over, so I went to bed. They came into my room to ask me if I was all right. I said yes and tried to go to sleep. I did not tell my parents what had happened till the next day. They said they could tell that something was wrong and with the look on my face
that I was not lying. This happened twenty-five years ago but I remember  IT like it was yesterday.

Chief of the Ontario provincial Police, Stayner, Ontario

March 10, 1975
Dear Sirs:

I am writing to you as I am greatly concerned about this past Saturday evening's occurrence at Stayner when traveling from Lindsay to Meaford at about 8:30 PM. You are probably aware that I have already reported this whole matter to the O.P.P. at Owen Sound and also to the Lindsay O.P.P. as I felt people in authority should know what we encountered that night. Although we are still upset and frightened, I shall relate to you what happened.

Driving from the east on Hwy. 26 after proceeding around a curve approaching Stayner accompanied by my 18 year old daughter, (deleted) and 10 year old, (deleted) they observed flashing lights to the north of us on the far side of the open field and moving in the same direction we were. There were no other cars on the road at this time. The girls commented that it didn't look like any plane or helicopter but were wondering what it was. It was moving at about our speed and then it suddenly turned south on a 90 degree coming our way. When (deleted) yelled out that "it was coming towards us", I immediately pulled over to the shoulder of the road, stopped the car and opened the car door. And just as I stood up, I saw a huge circular object about 100 to 200 feet more or less just passing above us, cruising silently, slowly and there were five red glowing lights spaced evenly around the inside of the circle close to the outside edge and there were brilliant white-bluish lights flashing around the rim or edge of it.

The bottom of it, I noticed, as it passed over us, was flat and the color of steel. As it moved still in the southerly direction, there was no sound whatsoever from it or anything else at that time until our poodle began barking and growling. Although the bottom was flat, the rest of it was similar to the shape of a large water tower. And this thing had to follow us and passed over us !!!!

As it moved away from us still at the same slow speed and very low, we saw a small plane flying at full speed towards it only the plane was considerably higher than that of the object. Ahead of us, we noticed that an O.P.P. cruiser was parked at a service station entrance on the other side of the highway with the front of the car parked facing the road. I understand that a (deleted) was on duty that night and I know that he couldn't have possibly missed seeing the same thing we did. I would sincerely like to know who the pilot of the plane was that followed the object as he would certainly conform what we saw and I would appreciate knowing if the pilot caught up with it and where.

Something should be done about this and a full investigation made. I am writing to the Trenton Air Force base about this whole matter, and shall carry it much further to find out what it was.

Little Britain Ontario - North-western Tip Of Lake Scugog

November 27, 1972, 10:10 PM

I am enclosing a copy of a letter which has been forwarded to the Ontario Provincial Police at Stayner, Ontario, and would appreciate it very much if you find the time to read it, and the contents of this letter to you.

Being a concerned citizen, I would very much like to know about these so called UFOs and what the Air Force is doing about them.

It may also be of interest to you, that on November 27, 1972, at about 10:10 PM, my family and I were traveling south of Little Britain and we watched a red speck of light descend from a pin point from the south-western sky. As it gradually descended at a fantastic speed towards earth it became larger. It hovered over the north-western tip of Lake Scugog being the next concession over from where we watched, and then for about 20 minutes it glowed red brightly and fading and glowing brightly again. It was about the size of a water tower cut in half as we viewed it across the fields, until it suddenly disappeared.

Again on January 8, 1973, my two daughters and I were driving in an easterly direction towards Lindsay from Little Britain at about 5:00 PM when the sky was clear and a pale blue in color, when all of a sudden a brilliant white light appeared before us on the north side of the road. I remembered reading somewhere that someone flashed a flashlight at one and it had flashed back so I thought I would do the same thing. I put on my car lights on and off three times and in return, the huge light flashed back at us three times where I immediately pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the car. Two other cars sped by us and they obviously saw the same thing we did, but as I opened the door of the car and stood up, the light moved faster than we could follow it, over to the south of us which was on our right almost over our car. We were unable to determine its shape but did observe that it made no sound, and was about the size again of the top half of a water tower and then it completely disappeared.

I have often seen these strange lights in the skies at all hours of the night in particular, and have seen their erect behavioral patterns, along with others I have known and of whom did not report to the police. I reported sightings to the A.P.R.O. at Tucson, Arizona, and to the Orillia radio station and this last one to the O.P.P. at Stayner and Lindsay. It is one thing to view these strange craft at a distance but to have one as near to my family and I as the one at Stayner, it is a much different matter.

Also, one evening this January 18, my 10 year old daughter was found in shock when I arrived home from work at about 9:20 PM. She was white in color and couldn't speak and it took me almost 1 1/2 hours to get her to talk to me what had happened. Apparently she saw a "cigar-shaped" object hovering at tree top level out in front of our place where we live in Lindsay. The flashing blue lights drew her attention to look at what it was. She stated that the lights were "twirling". It sounds similar to what (name deleted) saw of whom lives at (deleted). She also told me all about her experience with objects of this nature. A couple I was acquainted with from Little Britain told me that they were followed three times by a brilliant white light from Markham to just north of Port Perry and I know others, many others, who have related their encounters with UFOs

I want to know why the public isn't being told or informed about these and why stories in the newspapers or reports on the radio are being "hushed up" so to speak on something that is obviously the greatest discovery of out time.

Your kind attention to this very serious matter would be greatly appreciated, and I remain,

Yours very truly,
(deleted)

PS - I am hoping you will reply to my letter as I intend to find out some answers from somewhere about these "things"
