About Us
HBCA was founded in 1992 by a group of HBCU alumni employed in and around New London, CT. The groups goal was to promote higher education with an emphasis on HBCUs. Our most popular activity is the annual Black college tour conducted each year during NLHS April break.

College Tour 2009
The 17th annual Black College tour will feature visits to Howard, VA Union, NCA&T, WSSU, NCCU, Saint Augustine's College, and Shaw. Bus departs New London, CT on 4/14 and return on 4/19. The cost is $295 per student and includes chartered coach transportation and hotel accomodations.

2008 Morrill Scholarship

HBCA's 2008 Morrill Scholarship was awarded to Ms. Cierra Patrick in the amount of $500. Cierra graduated from Ella T. Grasso Technical High School with a 4.0 grade point average. Member On The Move

Two HBCA members received local and national recognition for outstanding community service.

On January 21, 2008 HBCA's president Vouise Fonville was awarded the Power of One Community Service Award by the Collins Foundation, Inc. The award recognizes extraordinary local agents of change who have demonstrated a commitment to positive social change through their actions and initiatives in the greater Connecticut community.

HBCA's treasurer, Gussie Patterson was selected as a 2008 Technology All-Star by the Career Communication Group's Women of Color magazine and IBM Corporation. Each year, Women of Color magazine recognizes women who have excelled in the technology field. These women have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their workplaces and communities. On October 24, 2008 Gussie will be honored at the 13th Annual National Women of Color STEM Conference in Dallas, Texas.
