CONQUERING THE ALPS OF SWITZERLAND

“No other place in Europe offers the physical beauty and idyllic charm of Switzerland. From hillside villages to breathtaking vistas afforded by the Alps, Switzerland is truly a ‘walker's paradise.’”

MONT BLANC- Standing 4807 meters, Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps.  Mont Blanc Massif is considered as the most impressive region in the Swiss Alps.

Mont Blanc yet gleams on high: -- the power is there,
The still and solemn power of many sights,
And many sounds, and much of life and death.
In the calm darkness of the moonless nights,
In the lone glare of day, the snows descend
Upon that Mountain; none beholds them there,
Nor when the flakes burn in the sinking sun,
Or the star-beams dart through them: Winds contend
Silently there, and heap the snow with breath
Rapid and strong, but silently!  Its home

The voiceless lightning in these solitudes
Keeps innocently, and like vapour broods
Over the snow. The secret strength of things
Which governs thought, and to the infinite dome
Of heaven is as a law, inhabits thee!
And what were thou, and earth, and stars, and sea,
If to the human mind's imaginings
Silence and solitude were vacancy?

Geneva City.   The Famous Giant Fountain in Geneva Lake.

Zurich City.   It was the time for the Summer Street Parade when we got there.  While French is more commonly used in Geneva, German is the dominant language in Zurich.  The changing of language as we’re traveling was quite interesting!

The Ellis Family- don’t they make a lovely picture in a picturesque sorrounding?

The drive around Switzerland was truly super.  We pulled over many times to take pictures of the paradise-like place.

Wishful Thinking.  This is a little fuzzy.  I don’t know why, but the surroundings seem a little less bright when loved ones are not near to share its beauty with? :- )

Cable Car Ride .  Behind Kline and me is a view of Geneva City.  The cable-car ride up was thrilling.  From the station, we hiked a bit to get to this almost-two-kilometer elevation where the picture was taken.  The hike was fun, although at the beginning a bit challenging having had some wine over lunch that made me feel a bit tipsy.

From this place where we took the picture, we drove through the Tunnel du Mont Blanc (as the road sign shows).  The tunnel- 7.5 kilometer-long – was the longest I have had seen.  There was nothing like finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I loved most of all the Lunch Pullovers.  The spots we had were always breathtaking!

Glaciers of Mont Blanc, truly an awesome view.
