A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
I'd like to take a moment to recognize a really great person named Michael Hunter who played 'Pseudolus' in this production. He was my classmate at MSU, he graduated with me, and we were in a number of shows together. He passed away this past fall (2002) at the age of 26. He was not only very talented, but very kind and funny. It was a very great loss, and my blessings go out to his family.
A Protean in '...Forum'

These were taken for preview articles during dress rehearsals, and both are from the opening sequence. Obviously, we hadn't quite worked all the bugs out yet. There was an onstage costume change for most of the cast (pulling costumes out of a trunk) that gave us about 4 or 6 measures to get to the trunk, put on our costume, and move to our next spot. I hadn't quite mastered it, since in the photo on the left, my costume is on backwards and not tied! I worked it out in time for opening night....
(Right) This is a photo from Act 2. Note that this was a Michigan State University theatre department production, and therefore our Miles Gloriosis (center, in green and white) is dressed to look like our school mascot, Sparty.I'm one of the women wearing a black shawl with my arms up, but I can't even remember which one I am - not that you could tell from the photo anyway!
(Left) Further proof that Spartans were here! I'm second from the right with my fellow protean women, backstage at the Wharton Center (where we were performing). The week before our show opened, the MSU mens basketball team won the national championships, so the protean women got to wear championship basketball shirts onstage during Miles Gloriosis' big entrance. Lucky us, we got to keep the shirts as well! Don't we look scary?
(Right) Ha! I finally did get my costume on correctly! This was supposed to be a picture of me in front of the set, but apparently there wasn't anough light, so none of the background showed up! So I guess that makes it just a boring picture of me... Maybe I just wanted to prove I could wear my costume properly!
