CITY OF HAYWARD

FY 2004-05

Hayward Community Gardens

1st Quarterly Report—July–September 2004

SECTION 1:                       SUMMARY

This quarter covers the busiest season at the gardens. Members were busy planting and harvesting, but during this period we still managed to enter an Alameda County Fair exhibit that took home 2nd Prize, and made many plans for the 2nd quarter when we will concentrate on maintenance and administrative projects.

SECTION 2:                       WORK PROGRAM PERFORMANCE

Objective A: Maintain or increase our services to low-income Hayward residents, particularly apartment dwellers

  • Devised a new fee schedule (attached) to give a discounted membership rate to low-income Hayward residents, and to strongly discourage gardeners from holding multiple plots
  • Provided membership and activities information at Hayward Farmer’s Market (ongoing)
  • Entered an exhibit at the Alameda County Fair in July and won 2nd place prize
  • Created and distributed a garden brochure (July)

Objective B: Establish consistent administrative procedures and easily maintained system for fiscal matters, record-keeping and membership accountability
