Hayward Community Gardens

Operations Committee Meeting

February 7, 2004

Chair:  Sandy Frost

Present:  Tony Ramirez, Ricardo Torres, Marcos Zuniga, Jose Fernandez, Juan Ortiz, Aureliano Berber, Jose Romero, Mitch Nakashima

General comments were made on keeping the garden green.  Some gardens in back are not cleaned up.  No alcohol in the garden is mentioned again; wise water use; no favoritism towards friends.

Election for new board members:

Candidates for the board should be exemplary in their behavior when in the gardens;

no use of alcohol or drugs in the gardens, being helpful and friendly, setting a positive example for other garden members, willing to enforce the rules.  Those who are eligible and appropriate candidates will be placed on the ballot for election.

Sign-up for gardens is ongoing.

Returning members will keep multiple plots as long as there is no demand for gardens and the plots are kept clean and productive.

The city wants more low-income gardeners.

In order to start the vegetable stand in front, we will need volunteers to man the table.

Ricardo Torres volunteered to grow market gardens in two empty plots.

Income for all working adults in household must be verified on the 2004 application.

The Operations Committee will meet with the Administration Committee members before the election target date in April.

The lock will be changed in two weeks on Saturday February 21.  Members will return the old keys in exchange for new keys.
