Administrative Board Meeting Minutes

 

July 27, 2004

 

Present:

                John Swarr, John Quintero, Kendra Johnson, Fred Hempel

 

1.        HCG has been asked to officially support “GMO Free Alameda County”, an initiative to ban genetically modified organisms from open-air cultivation throughout the county. Board discussed the issue; some felt not informed enough to vote on whether HCG would support this initiative at this time. Vote postponed.

 

2.        Operations Board has proposed, after previous meeting at which Reggie McAfee was present, to offer him $500 as compensation for his artichoke plants, removed through misunderstanding for which HCG takes responsibility. He, in turn, made an oral agreement to donate $250 of that back to the gardens for operating costs. Admin. Board voted to support Operations Board’s decision.

 

3.        Report from Alameda County Fair. HCG won second place and $450! Congratulations and many thanks to everyone who helped install, maintain, and take down our exhibit there.

 

4.        Party! Proposed date for all-gardens party at Whitman garden. Saturday, September 11, 4pm. Ideas were potluck dishes of garden vegetables and recipe contest, games for kids, barbeque. John Q motioned to allot $300 of HCG money for barbeque meats, condiments, dinnerware, drinks, etc. All voted in approval. Kendra agreed to work on invitations/poster announcing party.

 

5.        New greenhouses. Vern did research, recommended a model. Fred had seen this choice and approved; all voted to approve that model but would like to see description/photo and cost at next meeting.

 

6.        John Swarr agreed to bring updated bylaws to next Admin meeting.

 

7.        John Q needs decisions by admin board over email before the next meeting, which members present agreed to continue the fourth Tuesday of each month. (Next meeting, therefore, would fall on August 24.) All board members requested to engage via email until then.
