Having said that, here are my guidelines.
1. I only read Han/Leia. Sorry. And maybe some stuff about the interaction between Leia and Luke.
2. I don't read fic that's based on the novels very often. Much of the stuff I read in the novels I think is patently silly, you see, so I'm reluctant to make myself sift through it. Moreover, I'm just not all that into the character of Mara Jade, which makes Post-ROTJ fic based on the novels hard to read.
3. Most of the stuff I run across on the Internet tends to be pretty well written. Perhaps that's because I only visit exclusive archives instead of attempting to trawl through the fanfiction.net machine, but I'd like to think that there's simply an abundance of good storytelling in this fandom.
