And the guidelines are...
1. I happen to think that Firefly fic is hard to write. The flow of dialogue on the show is not only distinctive, but difficult to mimic. So most of my recs represent what I consider to be 'accurate' depictions of the conversation.
2. My favorite pairing in this fandom is, unfortunately, not a terribly popular one -- Mal/Kaylee. While a fair number of people claim to like it, there's just not all that much fic out there. So, I've explored a lot of the other pairings in an effort to find things to read.
This is the only fandom in which I'll read incest. Because Simon and River are kind of off kilter on the show, I think it works -- in the words of one author, "Dig that crazy space incest."
Also, I'm not big on the slash in this fandom, of which there is an abundance. If you've read any of my other rec pages, you know that I'm not opposed to slash as a rule, but these characters just don't seem particularly slash-y to me (with the possible exception of Jayne, who might be overcompensating with his penchant for whorin', but I've yet to read a fic that actually makes me believe it).
