Subject: Basically, why think of God

The man in the modern world, unfortunately, has been so excessively fascinated by what he has discovered from the rules of nature that he has mostly become ignorant of the Ruler.

The modern man may be compared to a young driver of a very powerful car. Sitting at the wheel of the car with his pretty girl friend next to him, the young driver is boasting and proud of his speed. He would seldom think of the technique that was used in the make of the car, let alone of the thinkers whose efforts gave birth to such a speedy creature. Our young driver has taken the make of the car for granted. What about you?

My friend looked and figured out the make of a simple machine made in a foreign country, and started copying it. He called himself an inventor, and manufactured it for domestic use. He even was given some awards for his invention. Like our young driver, my friend was so simple minded that he really thought that it was he who was the original maker of the machine. Do you think it was really so?

Our great and respected scientists, in all areas of science and technology, have in fact used the invaluable mental power, itself supplied to them through nature, to discover the valuable rules existing also in nature.

Our young driver, sitting next to his pretty girl friend, was not at all concerned about the technique used in his speedy car, and my friend did not make the design of the machine he copied; nor did our respected scientists invent the rules they discovered in nature. Yet, unfortunately, discovering the rules of nature, in most cases, has so excessively fascinated the man that not only has he neglected the fact that his own invaluable mental power is constantly being supplied to him, he has become ignorant of the Ruler of the natural rules as well.

قلعه  سلطان عمارت می کند       لیک دعوی امارت می کند  (مثنوی  دفتر دوم  2546)

(As a laborer) he is toiling to maintain the king’s palace

But (foolishly) claims that he is the one ruling therein.

(Masnavi, the second book, 2546)

Ignorance is detested. Is it not true that the main difference between human being and others in the Universe is awareness? It is through awareness that human being is exalted to the level of having the desire to subjugate others in the Universe for his benefit. Thus, awareness is the main component in the driving force of any human being.

(This article is, of course, intended for the audience who believe in God. Nonbelievers should be addressed in a different manner.)

In this context, I would like to narrate the contents of a very meaningful parable cited by Mr. Clinton in his first presidential candidacy debate. I forget a lot of what I hear, but this parable was so striking and so deeply influenced me that, like Mr. Clinton’s own personality, I might never forget it:

One day a professor was seriously busy with his research. His laboratory door opened to his house. The professor had a child who from time to time opened the laboratory door and came to his father naturally distracting him from his deep studying on the research. But the professor, like a lot of other well-educated people, did not want to embarrass anyone else, let alone the small child.

So, each time the child came, the professor deliberately took apart a toy and gave it to the child to go back and assemble it. And each toy was assembled not in very long time, and the child was back again in the laboratory distracting the father once more.

The professor thought of something to give the child to keep him busy assembling it for long. He picked the world map off the wall, tore it into small pieces and gave it to the child to take home and fix it and then come again.

The professor felt happy that this time the child would stay busy at home long enough to let him do his research without distraction: The child was too small to know the world geographical locations to put the map in good order. But to his great surprise, the child was back again with a world map completely in good order.

Very seriously the professor asked the child to tell him how as a kid he had managed to fix it in good order.

And the child very calmly replied that there was a picture of a man at the back of the map. So, he put the man in good order and the whole world automatically took the good order. (Parenthesis by the writer: the main mission of the messengers of God, that is, to try to educate men for good order and good intention, after which the whole world automatically will go in good order due to each individuals being in good order with good intention. And what a noble mission!!! But this vast meaning was not what Mr. Clinton intended.)

Thinking of God and not neglecting Him in all the daily activities, no doubt will develop such a perfect personality in the individuals, and that, in turn, will, for sure automatically put the whole world in good order and in the right course for joy and happiness. Thinking of God and loving Him equals thinking of the whole world and loving it and caring for it. God and the whole world is not separable.
