Name: Ewan Gordon McGregor BirthDay:8:00 pm on March 31,1971 BirthPlace: Perth, Scotland 15 miles north of his hometown; Crieff, Scotland Height: 5'10" Wife: Eve (pronounced Ev) Mavrakis Married: July, 1995 Children: 2. Clara Mathilde; born February 1996 and Esther Rose; born in November 2001. Parents: James and Carol McGregor, both teachers Uncle: Denis Lawson, actor. Brother: Colin McGregor, 2 years Ewan's senior and an RAF pilot. Education:Ewan entered Morrison's Academy (where his father taught & was headmaster) at the age of 5. Ewan dropped out of Morrison's at 16, with the backing of both parents and went to work at the Perth Repertory Theater for approximately 6 months. At 17, he auditioned for and was accepted in the Kirkcaldy College of Technology for a 9 month general course in Theater. It was Ewan's first time to live away from home and it must have been an eye-opening and exciting time for the young McGregor. He was finally on his way to learning his craft' and become the actor he had wanted to be since the tender age of nine. After graduating from Kirkcaldy, Ewan returned home with the hope of being accepted into the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. After his RADA audition Ewan was told he was too young and should try again when he was older and had more experience. Dejected, Ewan returned home to Crieff and was soon granted an interview with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Along with 700 other applicants, Ewan was put through 3 difficult days of auditioning (including singing) and was one of only 26 accepted for the next term. By his third year at Kirkcaldy, Ewan had matured in confidence and as an actor. It was during Ewan's Senior Year Showcase that he was spotted by agent Lindy King and offered an audition for a lead role in a new British mini-series, Lipstick on Your Collar. However, due to poor coverage by the press and some negative publicity regarding a scene in the first episode; few people watched the mini-series. Ewan has been quoted as saying that he feared he would never work as an actor again during the few months following LOYC (Patience is often in short supply in the young and ambitious) Ewan took a few small roles following LOYC, one portraying a rape suspect in the television series Kavanaugh QC. It was here that Ewan met his future wife, set designer Eve Mavrakis. Ewan has been quoted as saying that it was pretty much love at first sight with Eve, she was intelligent, beautiful and head strong.......a perfect match for the handsome, charismatic young actor. Ewan's first major film was a non-speaking part in the poorly received movie Being Human. At around this time Ewan was offered the lead in the British mini-series, The Scarlet and the Black. The response to Scarlet by the critics was not terribly favorable, but the public loved it! Scarlet was a hit in Britain and Ewan's career was properly launched. Ewan's next roles following The Scarlet and the Black was Shallow Grave, Blue Juice and The Pillow Book. Though Pillow Book was released after Trainspotting, it was filmed prior and as you watch PB, you can't help but notice Ewan's "Jerome" is much thinner in later scenes. Ewan was dieting to achieve the "heroine junkie" look necessary for his next role: Trainspotting. The same team that made Shallow Grave such a surprise success had offered Ewan the "role of a lifetime" playing Mark Renton in Trainspotting. Trainspotting went on to become a cult hit and critically acclaimed in Europe as well as in the States. After the release of Trainspotting - the world began to sit up and take notice of the affable, buttery voiced young man from Crieff (this website owner being one). Thanks to movies such as Star Wars and Moulin Rouge, Ewan's popularity has soared in recent years. He is working with some of the best directors and co-stars in the business. Who knows what the future will bring, what exciting or flawed character he will bring to life ? I certainly don't know, nor do I care.........I will buy my ticket, sit back and prepare to be transported......... I'm just along for the ride. And with Ewan, the ride is always exciting!---Tillie, EwanOnline.
