We loved Florence. Theres heaps to look at, everything you buy is good quality and the food was great. We steered clear of the Main Squares and found a really good place called Yellow Bar - The best Pizza and beer ever! Again not much english spoken but pointing at things and knowing how to say thanks is enough. We went to a few places where it was obvious that only locals go, they were cheaper and way more authentic. The buildings were really cool...and David..... anyway have a look below
A view over over florence
The first thing we did was walk to the top of a massive tower... 940 steps to take this shot
Then Nat discovered Florence has great jewellery....
Nat instantly looked great
I didn't
We hired a motorbike and drove 50ks out of the city, It was a small bike but would hit about 100 so was more than enough. I had to tick a box to say I could drive and give a credit card in case of damage (They never know I have a really small limit).
Filling up with fuel was interesting - petrol stations with no people... at all and nothing in english, and I had forgotten the strict instruction on the octane level to use. Whatever we put in seemed to work though.

I couldnt believe we nearly missed out on the countryside, we drove all day down really narrow roads lined by stone walls. I wondered how nobody crashed, until we came accross a car that had hit a motorbike - They were both munted but the guy was magically ok. Tried to help but again.... Language barrier.

The further we zig zagged into the country Nat asked wether I would remember the way back through the maze of walls and roads, I did.... Just

5 hours later we headed back and getting the bike home was a bit harder, we got lost navigating one way streets for over an hour. With thunder and lightning and speeing down roads where people got agro because top speed isn't fast enough Nat held the map in front of my face and we made it, a bit late... They will probably try charge my credit card for it.... (but itl decline)
We were driving past stuff like this for ages - It was great to get out of the ratrace
This little skink was sunbathing
The next morning we got up stupidly early to go and see Michelangelo's David.... And it was worth it. We walked in with hardly anyone in the room and WO its HUGE!(Insert Joke)
No Really, I though it was a table top sized thing, with the base its 20ft. I don't know the technical terms but it's definately the most impressive sculpture in the world.
Normally I respect the strict No Photo rule, but the fact they were selling copies for 10 bucks in the gallery next to the "cafe" I couldn't resist. After one guy got caught there was a loud "Noooooo Photoooooo" in a pigeon english voice - so I whipped out the camera and got one, besides it's for your benefit  :-p
Michelangelo's David
There were actually quite a few impressive ones
I was stoked
The next day we went to the train station to go to Venice. I convinced Nat that the self service ticket machine was the way to go to avoid queues. It issued a first class ticket without asking and it was due to leave one minute after it printed it..... For 200$!! Obviously we missed it, and had to pay more to get the next one, but it always happens once on holiday and i'm never using one of those bloody machines again.

But finally we were on our way to venice......
