| After the native revolt, Dunstan Brennan finds himself returning to England in a diplomatic effort to keep the British from attacking the natives of St. Matthew's. It is not long before he is homesick for both his brother and his wife, Juliana. His journey is haunted by strange accidents aboard the Juliana Maria, a mysterious crew member, and worries of the reception he will receive in England. Gregory Brennan continues with his plans to marry Monica Harris after bringing peace back to the island of St. Matthew's. He believes his main concern is his brother's journey to England until a ship arrives from the United States. The captain is friendly but Gregory feels there is something more to their visits. Soon, the Colonial ship in the harbor is joined by a second and then a third. Gregory has to find a way to defend St. Matthew's with only three ships and contend with a bothersome Colonial First Lieutenant who remembers him from the Battle of Lake Champlain. The man's questions stirring up unpleasant memories for Gregory at a time when he needs to be concentrating on other things. Juliana Brennan listens to the advice of Gregory and remains on St. Matthew's despite the first letter they receive from Captain Christian Taylor informing them of Dunstan's arrest. The next letter from Taylor a few months later has her packing and on a ship for England wondering if she will find her husband still alive when she gets there. Cassandra Draco is asked to travel to England as well. What she finds there will surprise her and change her life forever. A change Captain Christian Taylor has been waiting for a long time. |
