My Song
You sat looking out that window for what seemed like hours As if fixated on some distant object, so intense were your thoughts. I knew better than to disturb you, so sat motionless hypnotized while watching the smoke from your cigarette silently encirle you and intertwine with your thoughts.
Slowly without warning you stirred, interrupting the peaceful curls of smoke, And the silence was broken as you reached for your guitar and seduced some reluctant yet beautiful chords from it. Then as not to break the spell I remained motionless as you moved to the piano. Fingers moving, I could hear my heart pounding as your hands moved so easily and naturally across the keys. It was beautiful. It was magic.
Then silence........ Another coffee was poured, another cigarette was lit........ Inspiration had taken hold, you were anxious and I could feel your excited state. But I remained still.
Now with paper and pencil in hand I knew I'd not be able to break into your world until it was finished.
Long shadows stretched and grew, then night fell. You were just within reach of me yet you were so far away. I went to bed alone.
Very early I was awakened by your music and the sound of your voice, and I could feel the intensity and the incredible emotion. How I wanted to run to you and share it all with you..... But I just lie quietly in my bed thinking and listening for a long time, then I slept again.
When I awoke again the warm beautiful sunshine was coming in through my window and I could hear the hungry cry of the seagulls. It was morning.
I knew you hadn't come to bed last night and as I turned towards your side of the bed, there it was. The song!
As I read the lyrics tears streamed down my face. I had to find the creator and embrace him.
There you were sitting on the beach looking far off into the distance as if fixated on some distant object, cigarette in hand looking so peacecful.
I just stood there looking at you overcome with love and emotion.........
Last night it had been conceived and created And it was for me. And it it was beautiful.
This piece I dedicate to a very special man who brought beautiful music into my life. |
