This page is the requisite store of links to other sites that I've found throughout my travels on the world-wide web. Some of these sites are Star Trek-related, fanfic- and writing-related, some aren't. Generally, I'm just including anything I've come across that strikes me as interesting. If you have a page that you think would be appropriate or would like a link to your own page placed here, send me an e-mail and I'll check it out. In the meantime, happy surfing!
Star Trek Links
U.S.S. LeJeune- This is the site of a PBeM (play-by-e-mail) roleplay that I belong to, and seeing as how it was not only the catalyst for the creation of Martin McManus but has a load of great writers on board with equally interesting characters, it gets first billing. Go have a look and feel free to sign on- we're always looking for new crew members, and we don't bite (usually).
Sid City- This is another Star Trek site, the on-line home of fans of Alexander Siddig, the actor who plays the character of Julian Bashir on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. If you're a big fan of Bashir's character (heck, even if you're not), this site is worth checking out; there's a great message board with all sorts of friendly people, as well as all of the latest information on Sid's upcoming films and convention appearances.
The Official Star Trek Site- The site run by Paramount. This is where you'll find information on the newer Star Trek merchandise that's on the market, any video games being released, et cetera. It's a bit graphics-intensive, so if you have a slower browser you might want to keep that in mind.
Mel Gibson Links
As you may have noticed, Mel Gibson was the physical prototype for Martin McManus and as a result, I feel obliged to inclide a few Gibson-related links here.
Mel Gibson News- When Mel Gibson Central closed down, I assumed that my usual source of Mel-related news was gone for good, but I was happily mistaken. This site has taken on the job of culling through television guides and magazines looking out for whatever pieces of Mel information are out there. They do a great job, and it's well worth checking out if you're a Gibson fan.
Mel Gibson TV Schedule- This schedule lists television appearances that Mel will be making in the course of the next month. Updated every few weeks, it does miss occasional local station appearances, but generally, it's a great resource for anyone looking for a Mel fix.
Mad Max- A great site for Mad Max fans, this is where to go if you're looking for anything relating to the Road Warrior. There's a great message board to discuss the movies, suggestions of where to go if you're putting together a Mad Max costume, detailed looks at each of the movies and plenty more.
Mad Max: Road Warrior Forever- Another Mad Max site, this is a slickly-done graphical tribute to Max Rockatanski. There are plenty of pictures, reviews of the films and a great slideshow to look at, plus links to other related stuff.
M*A*S*H Links
M*A*S*H 4077 Homepage- A great M*A*S*H site with lots of fun stuff for fans, including the fanfic and the only M*A*S*H web board and chat that I've ever seen on the web. Definitely worth a look if you're into the movie or the show and wanting to discuss M*A*S*H with other fans.
Alan Alda TV Schedule- The same as the Mel Gibson schedule mentioned above, but monitoring Alan Alda's TV appearances. If you're curious to know what M*A*S*H episodes are appearing on FX in the next few weeks, this is the place to go (and it loads faster than the official FX site).
Yet Another M*A*S*H Page- Exactly what it says, but this site is a really nice tribute to one of the best shows around. Included are detailed bios on each of the main characters on M*A*S*H, along with quotes and pictures. Even if you know most of the info presented, it's still worth looking into.
ER/Medical
Links
The ER Screen Capture Archive- The place to go if you're looking for ER screen caps. They have a huge archive of the things (currently through season six, as far as I know), and they're easily downloadable. The site is a bit graphics-intensive, but it's more than worth it to find that one screen cap you're after. Definitely take the time to prowl around here a bit, because you never know what you'll find.
The Unofficial Goran Visnjic Site- This fan site (once mentioned in a Croatian paper as "Crazy Aziel's Goran Warehouse") is dedicated to Goran Visnjic, the excellent Croatian actor who portrays Doctor Luka Kovac on ER. With a constantly-updated news and article section, links to fanfic and enough pictures to satisfy just about everyone, this is the place to be if you're in the mood for Goran (and hey, who isn't?).
Golden Kingdom of ER- A very well-done ER fanfic site that serves as a sort of fanfic warehouse for a large number of authors. All of the fic is very well-written, and no matter what your preference is, you can probably find it here (link temporarily unavailable).
ER Daily- A site for ER spoilers- don't go here unless you want to know what's planned for upcoming ER eps! If you're that type, then this is probably the best place on-line to find reasonably reliable gossip concerning ER.
Noah Wyle: Man or Animal?- A nice Noah Wyle site that any Noah Wyle fan should go and see. Plenty of pictures, links, a filmography, the whole nine yards.
NCEMI- Not a television site- this is the real thing. A web site for the National Center for Emergency Medicine Informatics, this page has everything from a medical term search engine to programs that will calculate someone's GCS. Check out the x-ray, EKG and medical photo of the week!
Beatles Links
Hey, they're the best band ever (and, incidentally, my favorite); in the interest of exposing more people to them (hmm, makes Beatlemania sound like a disease), here are some Beatles links.
Bagism- A great John Lennon site run by Sam Chourki; the web boards and chat are good places to start, but careful of the political discussions- people have been known to be eaten whole. If that's not your style, there are also galleries, a library and reviews of Beatles-related books, movies and so on.
Macca-L- A well-known list dedicated to the idea of guilt-free Paul McCartney discussion. Their motto is "All Paul, all the time," and they stick to it. They don't allow people to sub from internet-based e-mail accounts, though, so if that's you, you're sort of out of luck.
Beatlefest- The Beatles function. I'm a four-year Beatlefest veteran and haven't had a bad experience yet. If you're not up to going to one of the celebrations, though, this is still one of the best ways to order Beatles merchandise that you might not be able to find elsewhere.
Godfather Links
The Godfather Trilogy- The very best site about The Godfather movies out there, bar none. You can find everything from trivia to Italian mafia slang to full transcriptions of each of the movies. Also here are links to J. Geoff's Scarface site and information on the upcoming Godfather DVD release.
The Godfather Trilogy Web Board- A vibrant set of web boards that revolve around The Godfather, both in its film and litarary incarnations. Also available are web boards dedicated to Mario Puzo, Scarface and other gangster films.
Judaism
Links
Aish- An Orthodox-based Jewish outreach site, containing all sorts of information from Israel to Torah to Shabbos candlelighting times.
Ask Moses- One of the best Judaism sites I've been fortunate enough to come across. Ask Moses provides those of us in areas with small Jewish populations (or people still too shy to go and seek out a rabbi of their own) a ready source of rabbis and other Jewish scholars, both men and women, willing to take on any question thrown their way. Be aware, however, that this site is run by a Lubavitch organization and, as such, takes an Orthodox stance on issues (particularly those of intermarriage and egalitarian worship).
Beliefnet- Not Jewish per se, but this site is excellent for any religious seeker (or just anyone religious, period). Regardless of what religion you practice, you can find an on-line community here. I generally frequent the Conversion to Judaism and other Jewish boards, but there's loads of other stuff to be found. A great jumping-off point and place for spirited but moderated discussion. All denominations of Judaism are represented here, and it's a great place to seek out resources. Check out the Belief-o-matic!
Chabad- A Jewish kiruv (outreach) site run by the Chabad organization, under the auspices of the Lubavitcher chassidic movement. Dedicated to bring assimilated Jews back to observance, this site is also excellent for prospective converts, the newly-observant and those who are just curious about the Jewish faith. Note: this site is run by an Orthodox Jewish movement, and not all of its opinions match those of this site's management. This note is applicable to all sites/lists mentioned within this category.
Chozrim- An Orthodox Jewish mailing list on Yahoogroups, catering particularly to Orthodox converts, prospective converts, and ba'alei teshuva (returnees to the faith). A great place to ask questions, especially for people curious about Orthodoxy but unsure of whether it's right for them.
Distant Shores- An Jewish mailing list for frum/observant science fiction fans; go here to discuss everything from whether using a transporter on Shabbat would be acceptable within halacha (Jewish law) to whether food from the replicators of the Enterprise could be considered kosher.
Lazer's Talmud Torah- Another site with all sorts of information for people curious about almost any aspect of Judaism. From basics to more detailed aspects of observance, this site covers a lot, particularly the "Ask Lazer" section. The opinions here are very conservative, but the information is valuable, nonetheless. Also has a good selection of frum (Orthodox) links.
Orthodox Union- Personally, I go here primarily for information on kashrus (dietary laws), but the official site of the OU also has great sections on the week's parsha (Torah portion), Israel, Jewish holidays and so on.
Torah.org- A site dedicated to promoting Torah and Talmud study to those of all ages. It houses everything from the weekly parsha to on-line Talmud courses for people at any level of learning experience. Highly recommended, especially for people looking to try studying Talmud but without ready access to a rabbi or study group. Also houses an extensive archive of d'var Torah for each week's Torah reading.
