Martin Columcille Isaac McManus was born in Dublin, Ireland to Ian and Rebekkah McManus. The birth was a difficult one, and there were doubts about whether either Rebekkah or her son would survive. In the end, both lived through the birth, but the complications were so severe that Rebekkah died a week later. A devastated Ian McManus was left to raise his son alone, and Martin's childhood would be troubled.
