Tomislav
Kovac was born in Sibenik, Croatia, to Ana and Vladimir Kovac.
The second-oldest of seven children, Tomislav (called Tommy by
his friends) was raised in a closely-knit, devoutly Catholic family.
Excelling throughout his academic career while grwing up, Tommy
was admitted to Starfleet Academy upon graduation from high school.
After his graduation from the Academy, Tommy attended Starfleet
medical. After receiving his MD, Tomislav was posted aboard the
USS LeJeune, where Martin McManus was his XO. The two doctors
got along well as colleagues, and would become good friends.
