                                         Blown Glass 52" X 12" X 12"

Eric began blowing glass deep in the woods of southern Sweden and has been entranced with the medium ever since. Coming from a glass culture which is largely dominated by the factory, his style and determination stem from the process of glass blowing and not the product. After returning to the United States, he continued studying glass blowing at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Tennessee where he was formally indoctrinated with the Venetian styles which define much of American glass.

Soon after Eric moved to Seattle, he began to find his own, unfettered methods and aesthetics. He discovered that his diverse background has freed him from many biases he sees in the glass world. Eric welcomes new ideas and techniques and enjoys incorporating them into his work. He feels most of his work develops out of the techniques themselves as he experiments with them and refines his understanding of them.

His work parallels his development as a glassblower. Beginning with a seven year obsession with goblet making, Eric has begun rebelling against the pristine, practiced forms he trained so hard to make. He enjoys experimenting with every piece. He works to form beauty from the destruction of that which he has worked so hard to understand. He finds it only leads him further toward an even deeper comprehension.
