Haven's Hope Mission and History

Mission Statement

Haven's Hope  demonstrates the love of Christ to our world by ministering to financially vulnerable families with young children, through the distribution of diapers and other dignity items, in order to strengthen the entire family and empower them in every aspect of their lives.

What we do

The purpose of Haven's Hope is to meet one basic physical need of young children -- diapers.  Along with this physical need is the spiritual and emotional needs found in the households that are being served.  Through a team of volunteers diapers are distributed and family members are offered a safe place to have a snack and talk to caring individuals.

History

Haven's Hope had its beginning with Jefferson County Promoting Safe and Stable Familes Project (PSSFP).  PSSFP has two primary goals:  family preservation and family support.  PSSFP discovered that one of the stresses in the households it serviced was providing diapers for young children.  Programs such as Food Stamps and Women Infants and Children provide assistance for food and many other basic needs.  However, non-food items such as diapers are not covered by these programs.

Starting as a project of PSSFP, Haven's Hope opened its doors in April, 2000.  Its goal was very simple:  provide diapers for financially stressed households in Jefferson County which needed assistance.

Haven's Hope is an innovative project in that it teamed governement (PSSFP) with a faith-based organization (Harvest Christian Community) to meet its goal.  Since that time it has grown rapidly.  The first distribution occurred on May 17, 2000 and assisted  17 households.  Today over 120 households are being assisted and over 7,000 diapers are being distributed each month.
