Loniet Davie

Ethi

Name: Loniet (Loni) Davie

Age: 13

Position: 1st year Healer Trainee

Gifts: Healing (moderate), Empathy (strong), Bonded Thoughtsensing

Appearance: Loni is rather small and frail for her age, both in appearance and actuality. She is about 4'8" tall. She has long, medium-brown hair, and blue eyes. She is skinny, but doesn't quite have a starved look. She looks more like someone who gets enough to eat, but not more, and has a rather fast metabolism.

Personality: Loni is not used to being noticed, and likes it that way. She isn't quite painfully shy, and will talk to people, especially of her own age, but she is not very trusting of adults, especially of the male variety, though her empathy does give her some idea of whether to be usually wary or actually afraid. She is smart, but does not want to call attention to herself by making that known. She is very loyal, once her loyalty has been earned, and will do anything she can to protect the people she cares about. She feels guilt for not having done more to help her sister, but never talks about it.

Short Life Story: Loni has a twin brother, Danal, her best friend, and a sister, Cala, who was about two years younger than the other two. Their father, Steven, had always favored Dan, as the only boy, though he did care for his daughters, just not as much, and he never seemed to be proud of anything they did. Rose, the mother, loved all her children equally but she was never a great mother, though she tried, because she hadn't wanted children and was not entirely sure what to do with them.

When the twins were 6, their father fell off his horse on a journey into Haven. He suffered some minor brain damage, resulting in him being much more prone to anger. He began to suspect, rightly though belatedly, that Cala was the result of an affair, and took his suspicions out on both his daughter and his wife, first through verbal abuse. A few years later, he began to turn to beatings. Loni hated all of this, felt terrible every time, and gradually she began to feel even worse than her care for her sister and mother could explain. She, personally, continued to be ignored by their father, which she was mostly grateful for. Her mother continued to love her and paid enough attention to her that Loni didn't completely feel unloved, but most of her attention was to Cala, simply due to the necessity of the situation. Loni also cared for Cala, trying to make sure her sister knew nothing was her fault and doing everything she could to help the girl. Dan cared about both of them, and was a good friend and playmate, but did not understand what the girls needed the way that Loni understood Cala.

One day, about a month and a half before Loni and Dan's 13th birthdays, Steven got extremely drunk and angrier than usual. He beat Cala, badly. When he turned to Rose, the woman had decided not to take it, and even succeeded in chasing him out of the house without taking too much damage herself. Cala, however, was in worse shape. Loni had run over to her sister, now unconscious, begging the gods to make her better, keep her from dying. The Healing Gift that Loni didn't even know existed opened up, and she was able to ease her sister's pain to some extent. While she was paying attention to Cala, Dan had run to get the local Healer. Cala died just as he arrived, because Loni's Gift, still untrained, was no match for the internal damage Cala had suffered, but the Healer did recognize what Loni had been trying to do, and told Rose that the girl should be trained as a Healer.
