Kayatice Fitral

Jami

Name: Kayatice (Kate) Fitral

Age: 21 (m10/d31)

Position: Herald - Weaponsmaster Assistant

Gifts: Strong Firestarting, Average Mindspeech

Appearance: This young woman has grown from a boyishly thin child into the figure she never thought she would have. Her muscles are sleek and honed, while her body retains only a little curve to it. She has long, soft black hair that she refuses to cut, and therefore has grown quite long in the past couple of years. Always kept in a braid or tail, it seldom gets in the way of work, though on occasion Kate will let it hang loosely, as when in some formal function or other.
Her eyes are a shade of gray that seem to pick up the colors of the things she wears, though most often they're a dark metallic color to suit her mood. Depending on her level of cheerfulness (or lack thereof), they shift either darker or lighter, and thus change the depths of the color they reflect.
Her face is angular, with a hawk like nose, a thin mouth, and high cheekbones that only serve to augment her striking appearance. And when she's angry, dark eyebrows seem to enhance the emotion and make a glare from this lady quite hard to withstand. She is neither short nor tall, which she views as a plus, since she doesn't have to compensate for one or the other.

Personality: When Kate first came to the Collegium at the age of fourteen, she was introverted and quiet. Her views on life were cynical, and she was afraid of nearly every man that looked her way. She loved only one person back then: her Companion Kalia.
Nowadays, she's on the way to improving herself. The young lady has been making strides in learning to control her temper, and is also working on ridding herself of the ingrained distrust of males in general.
Aside from her shortcomings, she is intelligent, quick-witted, sharp-tongued and deep down (though she'd never admit it to anyone), a caring individual. Those are traits that only her closest friends see, though, and Kate can't seem to make too many of those. There are just some habits that can't be broken.

Short Life Story: Kate grew up in a Keep full of teenage boys and an abusive father. She was his only child, after illness left him sterile when the girl was two years old. Pyrte didn't think much of his daughter. She was a disappointment in that she wasn't the son that he had hoped for. Because of that, he left the girl to her own devices when it came to defending herself from the fosterling boys of the Keep - even when they forced their way into her sleeping quarters.
Kate's mother, a frail, pale woman with dark eyes, was too afraid of her husband too stick up for their only child, and so Kate grew up as no child ought to -- without direction.
At an early age, she discovered weapons and their uses; at first, watching the others at their classes with the Keep's weaponsmaster was enough, but soon night found the girl working in secret as she had seen them do, slashing and swinging at the old pells in the yard.

She was Chosen soon before her fourteenth birthday by a sweet little Companion mare named Kalia. Swift on her hooves and nimble as a dancer, the two would have made quite a pair, if it weren't for the deadly arrow of an assassin's blade that slowly leeched the life out of the poor creature.
Kate lay with her as the Companion took its last breath, and just barely survived the loss herself when rescue from the Collegium came to their roadside resting place.
Days after, another Companion came to Kate's side - this one a stallion who was easily twice the size of Kalia. His name was Auley.

Kate is lifebonded to another Herald Trainee, which - it's been argued - is what saved Kate from death when her first Companion was killed. However, her views on life differed so greatly from those that Magnus held, the two seldom got along with each other. Problem after problem arose from this, until the relationship was so severe that the Trainees were sent to a Mind-Healer for evaluation.

Thankfully, life seems to be looking up for the lady now. One can only hope that no one throws another wrench into the works.

Companion: Auley, stallion
