Donas Sullivan

Jami

Age: 15 (m01/d13)

Position: 1st-year Mage Trainee

Gifts: Mage Gift (Potential to become a very strong Adept, whether he will rise to fulfill that potential is questionable.)

Appearance: Donas is, as boys go, slight of build. In fact, the only sort of sword fighting he could possibly be any good at would be the sort that Noblemen do for sport in their luxurious private gardens. The kind where strict rules and honor would keep him from getting killed. He has an angular face; his high cheekbones and pointed chin are exaggerated because he is so thin, and because of this, his expressions seem wildly exaggerated, too.

He is only a little taller than average - perhaps by two or three inches, but no more. He has never seen a hard day's work, and so his hands are soft, well manicured and when compared to the hands of a working boy, would seem almost feminine. His long, nimble fingers would be ideal for playing the piano, which indeed he does (and quite well, too).

The hair on his head is a deep, deep black, and glossy because he can afford to waste time caring for it. To match it are his eyes. While some would insist that there is no such thing as black in the wide spectrum of eye color, Donas and his family have no other name for this shade. It's too dark to be gray, and not the right tone for brown. If anything, the closest color to name might be a dark, dark indigo. They, like the eyes of his Great-Uncle, Lord Latham Baric, are piercing things. More often than not, anyone caught in his glare feels more than just a little uneasy.

He has a very pale complexion, and this is not only from heritage, but from lack of exposure to sunlight, by preference. With no developed muscle to speak of, he wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight if he had to.

Personality: This young man is sharp. He has a head for numbers and newer forms of music - the kind that old people shake their heads at and say, "Children these days..." As a thirteen year-old boy, he has the arrogance of a youngster whose father had just begun to leave him "in charge" while he was away, and the headstrong ideals that adults knew nothing of the tortures and sorrows of a the lives of their children.

The boy is downright cheeky - but supposing his upbringing, that's to be expected. He also takes himself very seriously; when working or speaking, he demands respect, whether or not he has currently earned it. However arrogant he may seem, the boy can also be kind - at least to those he feels are 'worthy' of such an honor. He chooses his friends carefully, and once proven loyal, will defend them quite viciously. For even he, at the young age of thirteen, knows that good friends are hard to come by.

Short Life Story: Born in Waymeet (a city just beyond the Forest of Sorrows) to a couple of wealthy upperclassmen, Donas has never had to do a second's hard labour in his life. As the only child in the family (his parents hadn't 'time' to raise more offspring - not that they'd raised Donas, really), he was doted upon, spoiled and allowed to pursue frivolous hobbies. He had tutors and private lessons of course, but those seldom took up more than two marks in his day.

When (as these things often do) his Gift began to show itself as Donas hit puberty, the Sullivans were immediately beside themselves as to what they would do with their son. Finally, they contacted Lord Latham Baric, who was Mrs. Sullivan's uncle in Haven. He, having no children of his own to spend money on, could afford to sponsor Donas into the Collegium - the problem was convincing him that it needed to be done.

A 'battle' had ensued, though it was more a battle of wits and willpower than anything else. Nora Sullivan was adamant, AND she had the backing of her aged Grandmother, the widowed Lady Baric -- Lord Latham's own Mother. And so it came to pass that Donas was enrolled into the Collegium, over much fuss and grumbling from Lord Baric, who was really only put out because he had to spend some of his stockpiled monies.

Family:
Lady Nora Sullivan (mother): An avid social-climber who married her husband for the status and money that he possessed; after fighting tooth and nail to gain the position, she is the unofficial 'queen' of the social hierarchy in their community, though she still aims to make it to Court one day. She adores Donas.
Lord Fergus Sullivan (father): Old money. Both his title and wealth were inherited from his parents (who acquired their wealth from a booming textile business in Westmark), being eldest son in a long line of children. He adores Nora, and so goes along with her ideals of how their son should be raised.
Lord Latham Baric (Great-Uncle, Mother's side): See his description in the Palace NPC section.
