Annual Report of the Year 2000 Time of Service in TMF

In the year 2000 my involvement  in TMF as SEND representative  again was in the capacity of the TMF Executive Committee chairman and as liaison person for TMF between TMF and the Evangelical Fellowship of Asia.

I. As chairman I was in charge of
1) Preparing the TMF summer conference
2) Chairing the TMF Executive Committee's four business meetings per year
3) Train my successor, Rodney Van Schooten for his task.
4) Serve the needs of the TMF membership

The major changes were within the TMF's structure of handling its workload as well as in its focus.

1.The summer conference: (WITH A HEART FOR GOD INTO THE NEW MILLENNIUM)
The conference also was an attempt to open up for more Asian  missionaries and to invite them in our midst as
friends, brothers and sisters and as helpers for TMF to do better in this country. The conference seemed to
welcome such a move and gave the second speaker, Dr. Joshua Tsutada, chairman of the EFA from Japan,  also a
very warm welcome.

Dr. Jack Elwood from Immanuael Bible College, and his team helped to run the junior high and senior high youth
people program. Their contribution was greatly appreciated. Diana Chase was in charge of coordinating the
Young Age people Program, which she set up into 6 groups with head teachers. SEND was able to contribute 10
Grace College students, OMF 2 summer workers and the Formosa Christian Mission 6 people. This time two
evenings were allotted for the local Christians to attend the sessions for free with translation into Chinese. Also
for the first time in TMF's conference history there was an exhibition of the national sending mission agencies,
where  four missions were able to present their programs to the T.M.F. public. The conference budget with NT$
722,920.- seemed relatively high and yet, after conference everything was no only paid, but there were NT$
47,512.- in the black.

2) Chairing the TMF Executive Committee's four business meetings per year
In order to streamline the committees working ability working guidelines for the administrative sub-committee
were worked out and after approval implemented. As a result of that the administrative working quality began to
improve. Records were about TMF's budgets, income and payments over the past years were gathered and
presented to the committee for comments. The Emergency Education Fund was adjusted to the present needs of
the TMF members. In order to  fasten and simplify the application process for EEF-funds the committee
approved new guidelines and application formula, worked out by the administrative sub-committee. (They are
part of the new TMF directory 2001, p 50-51).
It was found out that some of the former handling of finances based on wrong assumptions such us:
1) TMF has to spend a certain amount of money from the education fund every year.
2) TMF's is not allowed to have income.
For the Conference Preparation Committee I wrote a working manual, just to prevent, that "the conference
wheel" needs to be invented every year again.

3) Train my successor, Rodney Van Schooten for his task.
Rodney Van Schooten was a good assistant and very willing to cooperate with whatever seems necessary to
handle. He took over after the summer conference's business meeting, without having somebody in sight to be
his vice chairman. By that time this years conference speaker was contacted, and the conference date and place
set.  The nomination -sub-committee was unable to find a vice chairman for my successor

4) Serve the needs of the TMF membership
There was one EEF application from a former TMF member. Since he didn't pay his dues to TMF, was no TMF
member anymore and the reason for his application didn't agree with the EEF policy his application was denied.

II. As Liaison person of TMF for EFA there were two major events:
1) The application of TMF for associate membership
2) The acceptance of TMF's application by EFA for associate membership

This puts TMF role within Asia in a larger context alongside CCEA's (Chinese Christian Evangelistic
Association) role for promoting unity within the evangelical Taiwan churches as an equal partner. The impact of
TMF's long-term decision to join EFA depends on how strongly this new potential of sound Asian theology
pushed by EFA can take roots within TMF's member various ministries.

On the verge of its 50 years birthday TMF has more potential than ever alongside the CCEA and EFA to emerge
to a Christian organization with vision, strong unity and inpact in Taiwans society. It's up to SEND how far we
are able to tap it's resources.
