| The head space, incorporating the toilet, sink and shower in one small space, is located forward of the mast on the starboard side just aft of the forward stateroom which, accoring to the factory diesign specifications, is the "Master Cabin". We have found the forward cabin more useful for storage and occaisional guests, preferring to sleep in the aft cabin even though the athwartships, tucked-under-the-cockpit, layout for the bed is not optimal and also a bugger to make up. | |||||||||||||||||

| ZUG's design is fairly typical of a modern offshore cruising sailboat with more consideration given to livability than to performance or aesthetics. Though not an unattractive boat, she is by no means drop-dead gorgeous. Our previous boat, a Hans Christian 33, was an old-world double-end design with teak decks, tons of varnish and brass and a very cozy all wood interior. Everywhere we sailed her folks "ooooed" and "aahhed", but I am sure as we departed they were saying to themselves"thank god we don't own it" as she was a full time job to keep up. ZUG, on the other hand, is pretty low maintenance, especially now that we have stripped the finish off the little bit of exterior teak she does have, and let her go "au-naturel". I like to tell people that we sold a very nice Victorian home (i.e.; high maintenance) and now own a very well built track house (sturdy and reliable). |
