| In Talkeetna we dropped in on the Moose Dropping Festival and fortunately did not get hit by any. We hiked Exit Glacier outside of Seward, photographed whales and birds in Resurrection Bay, there were fishermen shoulder to shoulder on the Kenai River, all competing for a few forlorn salmon, and a full-blown circus of RV's at Homer Spit. We also discovered that Alaska would be a great place to tour by bike as there is an amazing system of bike trails throughout the state, though I understand that their existence is not due to any great cyclist loby but more a result of trying to keep drunk snowmobiler's off the highways in winter. Next trip will be in the camper with bikes and kayaks. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| There were also whales leaping, puffins swimming and, oh yes, Cheri jumping on the "Bog Trampoline". (A huge raft of vegitation, it's like walking on a waterbed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| In between all of this Cheri was busy planning a 50th anniversary party for her parents to be held in Denver at the end of September. An undertaking, that in the end, required more planning and consumed more energy than the bike trip that preceded it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| THE BIKE TRIP | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We finally headed out at the end of August, stopping at various places on our way north to visit friends and family. On the 7th of September we got underway loaded with 50 pounds of gear each, a bit nervous about how we would endure the traffic and hills and how our butts would endure five to six hours a day in the saddle. Our ignorance of the conditions and our condition turned out to be a blessing for had we known ahead of time what was in store we might never have started and would have missed an amazing adventure. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
