The president of the united states under presure from congress to inprove the health and welfare of the Indians living on reservations out west ordered the department of indian affairs to look into the matter.
the department of indian affairs came up with many good ideas and one of them was to build a school on the tribes reservation in bingham county
the tribes medicine man was against the idea and fought to have the project abandoned, even to the point of incarceration.
The medicine man said "the land is not good the land has many restless spirits and the land is EVIL"
the department built the school against the medicine mans objections and all was fine till the
first harvest.
A fire started in the basement of the school and many children were overcome with smoke and perished in the fire.
witnesses say they saw children in the schools loft "screaming at the windows" before the flames overtook them
the Department of Indian Affairs blamed the Medicine man for the fire and had him throw in jail, but the tribe railed around him proclaiming his innocence's. no formal charges were brough against him and they set him free
As for the fire No reason could every be found as to how or why the fire started.
many times the Department tryed to reopen the school after the fire but they never got the support of the tribe again.
people have heard storys of a school teachers ghost seen late at night walking the school and the childrens screems can be heard in the Fall.
the school property was abandoned.
