Ghost Hunting Tips
Preparations:
Don't hunt ghosts when you are tired, sick, angry, depressed, hungry, or otherwise drained, because you may become a target for unpleasantness. Nothing from the spirit world can harm us unless we first give permission. Compromised states, such as fatigue and illness, open the door. Pray according to your own spiritual tradition. Ask the God (or Goddess) of your understanding to protect and guide you in your work. Trust your own good sense of the surroundings and act accordingly. Take a cell phone with you and don't go alone. Let others know where you will be and when you plan to return. Be sure your car is in good condition and the gas tank is full. Ghost hunting is usually done at night, often in deserted places. I am more concerned with the malicious intent of human beings than I am with how a ghost might react to me. If an area doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and get out--not all threats are otherworldly.
The Hunting Approach:
If you truly are doing an investigation, you should also try to conduct the investigation as scientifically as possible and be sure to take as many accurate readings as possible. Measure the space you're in (if indoors), make a floor plan or plot map. Indicate where you experience disturbances as well as what they were. Purchase equipment if you are able to assist in recording as much of the environment as possible. Thermometer ( I have both a spot thermometer and an infrared thermometer ), a sound meter with a range from 60db to 120db, two analog tape recorders (I use two types of professional level external recording microphones - one is a condenser mic. and one is an omnidirectional) use external microphones to distance the recordings form as much of the mechanical crankings of the recorders themselves, the reason to use analog at the least is the hard evidence it produces in the scientific community over digital recordings that may possibly have been synthesized, video camera (full size video cassette's)- I intend to incorporate my 8mm film camera as well for motion footage for the same reason I would use analog recorders and a 35mm still camera. Because I am Wiccan, I used a pendulum to investigate the flow and disturbances of the Chi within the home I am currently investigating. I am recreating the floor plan on my computer as well as mapping out the disturbances. Before I go to this spot I thought it would be wise to protect myself magically, as did my friend. My friend created an oil which seals and protects her from spiritual invasion- I blessed water. Regardless of your religious beliefs, you should find some method which you are comfortable with to protect yourself form unseen an unknown energies. Investigate while with other people for your safety as well as additional witnesses. Be sure to have permission of the property owner and be sure to notify the police of your activities to avoid any waste of peace officer time or getting into trouble. If available have someone who is psychically in tune go with you. Read as much as possible on the paranormal, religious, and occult sciences as possible. Familiarize yourself with knowledge based on experience. When I wrote religious, I did not just mean that of Judea, Christianity, Islam- I also mean Buddhism, Cabala (or Kabala), Cabala (or Kabala), Hindu, Paganism in any facet, Wicca, et cetera. These are all valid and invaluable resources - they're vast wealth's of information. Do not be afraid to. In this business, or hobby, you do not have the place to be biased on what may be due to religious preferences - for you will not know the truth until you die.
Photo Tips:
Avoid using a flash across from reflective objects. Be aware of your surroundings. If it is raining or dusty where your picture is taken, it will appear to have "orbs" all over the photo. Bright light can also cause "orbs". Is that your camera strap in front of the lens or a vortex? Is something other than your camera strap very close to your flash? Anything hanging (low tree limbs, ropes, spider webs, etc) can reflect back as a "bright white energy" when shot at "point-blank" range. When scanning your pic in, try to use at least 150 dpi resolution. Less than that can make it difficult to discern what is in the shot. Keep an original scan on hand. When a computer is used to "sharpen" an image, digital artifacts can be inadvertantly added that were not in the original picture. When looking at "energy" in a photo, look at the negative. Does the "energy" continue out of the frame? If so, you have a development error. Most importantly, be alert and objective. Most "paranormal" photographs can be explained as natural occurances. Try to eliminate as many of these factors as possible."
