In da Hollar As told one stormy halloween nite by Possum Ric
'Twas da night fore Halloween, when all thru da house, Every Creature
wus shivering, even da fearless mouse, da costumes for da kiddies had been
picked with care, In hopes dat Halloween, wus gonna be good, even for those
dat took da dare.
da children were all dressed, one with a costume dad looked like uncle
Fred, While da thoughts of a lot of candy danced in their heads; And mamma
shaking her head, with da thought of fear... Some were ready to get it over
with, me I just worried about my beer.
When out in da barnyard there arose such a fuss, I jumped n grabbed
my gun, n let out a cuss' Out to da porch i made a mad dash, Tripped over
da coon dogs with a knee banging CRASH...
The moon was a rising giving an eriee glow, when all of a sudden, da
wind did start to blow. Then all of a sudden, with my ears I did hear...
A laff from the hollar's woods, that gave me a shiver of fear....
With a flashlight n a big ole stick, I knew then n there da THING
wus near the crick.....My heart wus a beatin, my knee's a shakin with shame...
When da laff stopped, n a deep voice called me by name; " Ri i i c".
" NOW Ric, THESE WORDS YOU MUST LISTEN! Then n there i knew I wus scared
n dat I wus a fixin... To run back to da house n hide like in da closet maybe,
When all of a sudden Kimmy did say " Now Ric, don't act like a baby! ".
If a leaf had a rustled I knew my feet would fly, n i knew tears would
be in my eye, So I started walking slowly toward da crick, I only knew if
i heard something worse,my feet be quick.
And then, from da woods within I heard a low hollow laff, that made
me tighten my chin. As I drew closer to da woods, I was about to turn
around....When down da road came da neighbor's from town.
Da neighbor's wus givin me a funny look, And I just knew they thawt
i was a crook... When all of a sudden da LAFF did HOWL...., I hoped then,
da people from town would be my pal....
My eyes -- started to get big n da laff wus gettin scarey.... One guy
from town asked me wus da thing hairy..... The Laff did begin to grow, gettin
louder n louder.. It wus then dat i knew my courage wuznt any prouder....
I heard something weird N knew it was my teeth, Then n there I knew
I was dealing with no theif; The laff begin to get closer n Louder...n
LOUDER....My legs shook n I thawt I would loose my possum chowder...
My heart wus now out there on da shelf.. I laughed when I thought of
myself; Would this be da nite in the hollar I wus found dead, Each step i
took, it wuz with dread;
When I suddenly saw da thing that had been our fear at work, right then
n there I knew, it was a jerk, Pickin da buggar from his nose, His big ole
belly, with each breath, it rose;
When I wus closer n he knew dat I saw him... I turned around N hollered
for Kim..... Only then did Bubba stand up N yell, to all in full sight,
"HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL, AND TO ALL A SAFE-NIGHT!"
