| Standsch�tzen were Tirolean associations of marksmen originaly from gun clubs. They were deployed as part of the militia during World War I. They were approximately 24,000 in number and fought on the south-west front until 1918. Unlike other military units, the Standsch�tzen were allowed to choose their officers themselves. |
