In short, I/51 has seen extensive service Serbia 1914-15 amd later on the Isonzo and Tyrol Front 1915-1918. The rest of the regiment was deployed with the 35th k.u.k. Infantry Division on the East Front until May 1917 and participated in the 10th, 11th and 12th Isonzo battles (the most bloody of the twelve Italian offensives on the Isonzo) and later took part in the Piave and Monte Grappa fightings.

To my knowledge there is no regimental history of IR 51, but there is a memorial book about Transilvanian regiments in World War I with short histories of all regiments from that area. The title of the book is:

Erdlyi ezredek a vilghborban. Szerk. Dese Lajos. A II. rszt (Az erdlyi ezredek bajtrsi emlkalbuma) szerk. Ardi Gyula; Bp. . n. [1940 utn] Ardi. 335 l., 18 l. (kpanyag), 54 l., 53 l. (kpanyag), 125 l. 310 mm, Szvegkzti kpanyaggal.

Wartime Regimental Commanders:

Oct 1912 - Sep 1914: Oberst Ludwig Langendorf
Sep 1914 - Jan 1915: Oberst Wendelin Colerus von Geldern
Jan 1915 - Jun 1915: Oberst Ludwig Langendorf
Jun 1915 - May 1916: Oberst Heinrich Klemm
May 1916 - Dec 1916: Oberst Robert Melchner
Dec 1916 - Nov 1918: Oberstleutnant/Oberst Franz Lichenthal
