We will be getting ready for our fitness testing that we do in the Fall.  The 2nd and 3rd graders will be participating in the Presidential Challenge which includes sit-ups, pull-ups, sit and reach, 1/2-1 mile run, and the shuttle run.  We are preparing for this event by doing our sit-ups and push-ups everytime they come to PE class and doing some continous jogging to work on their pacing.  A way they can improve their times is to run around and play outside when they are at home.  As long as they are moving for a continous amount of time, it will help.
The K-1st graderswill be working on their throwing and catching skills.  We are using a variety of objects to throw such as bean bags and different sizes of foam balls.  We will be throwing as far as we can and trying to throw at targets.  Playing  catch is a great way to spend some time working on the hand-eye coordination and getting outside.
We are going to try and get outside as much as possible with the weather permitting.  We will do some frisbee as well as kickball and just plain kicking outside.  We will be doing some follow the leader through obstacle courses that will include following directions and enjoying the sunshine!!
If your child is sick or needs to sit out of class for a health reason, please send a doctor's note or guardian note with your child to school so I can fulfill the request.  Please don't just have your child say that mom or dad said to sit out, I need documentation.  Thank you for you cooperation in this matter.  If your child has stitches or a cast, the child will not be allowed to participate until those stitches or cast is off.
