| Simon Hathaway born 20th of Apr 1752 Rochester, MA D: late 1799 or early 1800. He married Eunice Wing, Daughter of Shubael and Beulah Weston Wing. Simon served as a private on the MA Line in Cpt. Seth Briggs Co., in the AMERICAN REVOLUTION. He was called on the alarm of 19 Apr 1775, his call to arms in part "Simon Hathaway- ye to equipt with a napsack, powder horn and bullet pouch, blanket, etc..." He was a QUAKER and since he did not believe in fighting he drove the baggage wagon....details are from D.A.R. (daughters of the american revolution) National Library , Washington, D.C. or with other descendants. Births of all his children are in the Rochester, MA. records book 4 page 107. *** Simon Wing Hathaway born Rocester, MA. 1 Apr. 1793. Died Holmes County, Florida 7 June 1871. Buried at Mt. Zion Church north of Bonifay, FL. He married cir 1821 to Sarah Elizabeth Braxton (sheb.cir1805- Barnwell County, S.C.) Dau. of John Braxton. She died in Holmes County bet. 1901-1906. Their oldest children were born in Barnwell County, S.C. possibly on land owned by her father. They were in Dale County, AL 1840-1850-1860. Simon Wing moved his family to Holmes County, Fl before the Civil War. Simon Wing Hathaway was a skilled craftsman and successful pioneer. By family tradition he did not like the cold weather up in MA . He came south and helped to build a wharf over the Savannah River. Later in AL he either bought or built a flour mill, and also a gin which later caught fire while ginning. In Holmes County he settled near a community called Bethlehem.
