Tom Watson had a wit about himself like most of the Watson's at times. He and Alice gave land just down the hill from Alice's father, John Marion LaFayette Hathaway's house in the Bethlehem Community of Holmes County, Fl. for a one room school. Tom wanted his children to get an education so he and Alice donated this land for a school to be built. It was at the turn of the 19th century in this little rural community and the school was named in Tom Watson's honor, called The Watson School. In 1980 the students now in their late 70's and 80's started having their first Watson School Reunions. Tom Watson was also Trustee of the Holmes County School Board (source: in old minutes book in the basement of the Holmes County Courthouse). He also was a farmer and grist mill owner. continued...page five |
