2 infants buried, not noted on original plaque.....
first burial in this POND-SEARING tomb was my
great-grandmother Helena Jane Sibley Pond, who died on
June 27,1868 on the Steamboat Muscatine on the Mississippi
River in childbirth...
her stillborn unnamed daughter is buried in the casket with
her...it took the bodies over 11 months to be returned to
New Orleans, therefore the date 1869 appears on the tomb...
this is when Pond and Searing purchased this plot.

Helena's burial was on May 30, 1869.
Infant son Gilbert's remains were moved from Chatawa, MS
to Lafayette cemetery in 1869....

Byron Pond and Robert Searing married sisters.....
Helena Jane Sibley and Arthemise Ann Sibley were sisters
from Alabama.
Henrietta S. Randolph is a third sister..S. is for Sibley.
Eliza A. Sibley is their Mother ... on the Pond side ...
Lizzie Condit is the 3rd wife of Byron M. Pond ....
the other infant buried here was my father's younger
brother ... Alfred Converse Pond ... 1909 ... 1910, died
at age 7 months.

In the 1940's the sole ownership was turned over to the
Ponds. This is recorded in the New Orleans court records.
