Declaration of
Peace and Tolerance
Whereas, our world is experiencing times of turmoil and uncertainty, yet we are more closely connect in our communication, economies, and over way of life, and

Whereas, more and more individuals and governments argue the necessity of war or peace, and

Whereas, increased diversity among those with whom we were once familiar makes understanding and acceptance essential,
We hereby declare our unity as human beings
beyond all our differences.
Though war is never a "cut and dry" matter, and no one will ever agree as to whether or not force is absolutely necessary, peace is always the best alternative to war.  We recognize that instead of persuading a public on the justification of war, the better way is to convince a world on the absolute necessity of peace.  By bringing our common humanness to the foreground of our lives, we will be able to act together with all other human beings to meet our priority needs and shared aspirations.  In order that we may share a common passion, it is necessary that each individual sign to the same contract, and each signer make the commitment personal.
I believe that this world's diversity is its strength.  I also recognize that ignorance, insensitivity and bigotry can turn that diversity into a source of prejudice and discrimination.

I will have respect for people whose abilities, beliefs, culture, race, sexual identity, or other characteristics are different from my own.

I will peacefully work in my community to promote respect for people and create a prejudice-free zone.

I will speak out against hate, prejudice, discrimination, and injustice.

I will reach out to support those who are targets of hate and violence.

I will set a positive example for my family and friends.

I will examine my own biases and seek to gain understanding of those who I perceive as being different from myself.
We Share A World...

For all our differences, we share one world.  To be tolerant is to welcome the difference and delight in the sharing of them.  The only way to a hate free tomorrow is to understand and appreciate human diversity.

We believe that one person can make a difference and that no person can be an "innocent" bystander when it comes to opposing hate.  We recognize that respecting individual dignity, achieving equality, and promoting harmony are responsibilities of all people.  By signing this pledge, we each commit to each other to create a "Hate Free Tomorrow."
