| "Youth Empowerment Day" A Beacon Fellowship Conference Columbus, Ohio December 15, 2001 9am - 4:30 pm |
| The day will consist of a series of workshops, lunch, and a youth rally with a guest speaker(s). The purpose of the day is to educate and empower youths and adults to change and work together for social justice and to provide a positive and inclusive response to anti-tolerant religious groups attempts to recruit youth. Scheduled workshop presenters include: Beginning the Journey Diversity Workshops, Columbus AIDs Task Force, Beacon Against Racism, Sexual Assault Response Network, IMPACT Safety Programs, with more to follow. Later in the evening, Beacon Fellowship and Kaleidoscope Youth Coalition will be sponsoring a chem-free social/dance for gay/straight youth under age 21, from 7-11 pm at the Kaleidoscope Drop-in center. Workshop topics include: Hate and Violence, Youth and Spirituality, Acquaintance Rape and Teens, Substance Abuse and Youths, Youth, Racism, and Race Relations, Youth and HIV/AIDS, GLBTQ Youth Issues, Youth Safety Issue Registration Costs: $15 per person if registered in advance of Nov 20, 2001 After that date the fee is $25.00 per person. This fee includes workshop materials and lunch. Individual members of Beacon Fellowship, youth under the age of 18, and workshop presenters will be admitted free of charge, but you must register by the deadline. The fees are necessary to pay for the space rental and lunch items. Please make checks payable to: "Beacon Fellowship." There is no charge to attend the evening social/dance, but that will be limited to youth under the age of 21. The workshops and rally will be held at First Unitarian Universalist Church located at 93 West Weisheimer Rd, Columbus, Ohio. The building in handicap accessible, and there is plenty of free parking. Co-Sponsorships are available to businesses and other non-profits. For a donation of $50.00, you will receive a full page add in Beacon's December Newsletter, plus admission for up to 2 employees or staff members, and you'll be listed in all promotional materials for the event.
