For Immediate Release - First Hated Husband Found

A Hedribo tribesman who died over 5,000 years ago was the world's first Hated Husband

(Anakra, Turkey) - The mummified remains of the first Hated Husband, a Hedribo tribesman, were found last week in a small village in eastern Turkey, archeologists confirmed today. The remains were discovered by a team of archeologists, sociologists, and historians funded by the International Brotherhood of Hated Husbands.

"This is our Adam, the poor bastard," said an IBHH spokesman today. "This is a find of religious significance."

Carbon dating show the remains are 4,266 years old. Dubbed HH-1, the remains are far older than the remains previously thought to be the first hated husband, a farmer in France who died in 500 B.C.

Forensic analysis of the remains sheds light of the lifestyle of HH-1. Though tall and well-built, he was also stooped, had a permanently furrowed brow, and a serious ulcer. Although these signs are consistent with Hated Husband-hood, they are by no means determinative of that status. "A lot of these guys led short, nasty and brutish lives, " said team leader Dr. Peter Ubo. "In the end, it was the woolen plug in the left ear that proved he was a Hated Husband."

The plug had been in the left ear for years, Ubo noted, probably since HH-1 was about 14 years old, the age of marriage for the Hedribo tribe. The left ear is significant - it would have been the ear facing his wife when they slept, since it was Hedribo custom to have the husband sleep on the left, facing the rising sun in the east. HH1 used the plug for years as a protective device, no doubt shielding him from the shrill voice of his nagging wife. "The evidence is strong that he never removed the plug," Ubo said.

The IBHH plans to ship the remains to its Washington DC headquarters for further analysis. Then, it will be put on display at the IBHH Hated Husband Hall of Fame. The woolen plug will be bronzed and replicas will be sold in the IBHH gift shop.
