256. A. Tomlinson
Tradition says that the Tomlinsons went to England with William the Conqueror in 1066. The Tomlinsons were soldiers and middle level bureaucrats. When William of Orange went to Ireland to battle King James a Tomlinson was one of the soldiers in his army. After the Battle of Boyne Water in 1690. He was stationed at Athy Ireland and received a land grant. There seems to be at least one generation missing between this individual and the A. Tomlinson that is the beginning of my known Tomlinson line. There were a number of Tomlinsons living in the Athy, Ballylinan Dublin, Wicklow area in the Tithe Applotment index. Francis, William, Daniel, and John are the predominant names. This is a small area so they probably all had some connecttion.
