Flight season: generally arrives in July, earlier than the Wandering Glider (Pantala flavescens).
Population: irregular, a migratory dragonfly that is not seen every summer.
Length: about 45 mm to 50 mm.
This dragonfly appears a more grayish-brown than the similar Wandering Glider, the spot at the base of the hind wings is distinctive but may be difficult to see.

Male Spot-winged Glider (Pantala hymenaea) –
at least three males were present, sparring over a puddle of water less than a half a square meter in surface area, along the side of the the road
(July 15, 2016).

The face is bright reddish-orange in males.
