Flight season: unknown, the encounters depicted below occurred in early June.
Population: rare and seldom encountered, this is a southern species
that has been extending its range nothward the last few years.
Length: about 45 mm.

West of Tweed, Ontario, a dry field along the trans-Canada Trail:
a high and dry habitat, sandy soil supporting low grasses, Wild Strawberry, Arrowleaf Violet, Hawkweeds and scattered copses of Eastern Red Cedar.
